The enemies are not fun to fight in this FPS and the weapons lack punching power. Calling this a horror game is misleading, it's a shooter. The atmosphere is well done for an early 2000's game. There is 0 exploration, it's linear and level design is bland (empty rooms and corridors). I have played a lot of FPS games but this one is overrated in my book, do not trust the ratings.
I have never played this one back in the day, so there is no nostalgia involved. The game is quite mediocre even for its time. Level design is repetitive, there is no creativity. All levels are build up from the same sized block whereas tilesets may differ. Crystals are scattered across the map and your goal is to collect them all, the last crystal will end the level. In what order you collect them is up to you. Enemies are just there to slow you down and soak damage from your lightning bolts. Gameplay is quite smooth. So why did I finish the game if it's repetitive? Well, because I can turn my brain off with this simple and basic keyboard focused game, there is no precision platforming involved, enemies barely pose a threat and everything about this game has a certain cuteness factor attached to it (characters, enemies, music). If you are looking for a challenging action platformer then you should look elsewhere. If you are looking for a (shoot'em-up) platformer which isn't that taxing to your brain for 0-30 minute sessions and do not mind the repetitive nature then you could pick this up. Make sure you check out Hocus Pocus Doom if you like this game. Rating 5/10
Features in GC3 which are not present in GC2: - Civilizations can be build tall (restrict development on 1 planet and be successful) due to leaders. - Strategic resources can be traded and is used for equipment on ships. Monopolies are possible. - Warp gates (DLC) - Efficiency of buildings depend on adjacency of building type, thus placement matters (puzzle element) - Upgrading star bases do not require constructors (less micromanagement). - Training soldiers for invasions Features in GC2 which are not present in GC3: - Minor races (neutral and passive) - Trade ships are moving across the map and can be attacked (economies can be crippled) - Major mod overhauls - Death Star which is able to destroy planets in 1 shot. Galciv 3 adds more complexity (in the case of having all DLCs), lessens micromanagement but at the same time cuts out some cool features from Galciv 2, like minor races, death stars and trade ships. The AI in GC2 seems to be better than GC3. The thing I'm missing most in GC2 is the warp gate with strategic resources as second. Both games are not that different. I personally play GC2 more often than GC3. Both games are anti-climax (it boils down to map painting). The thing that annoys me in the third entry is training a parallel population (soldiers) for invasions while GC2 just subtracts them from your main population. Be aware that playing on maps bigger than 'large' may crash your game due to memory limitations. I have not played a sufficient amount of games with mods to give you a proper comparison/analyses between those (finished 1 game with each of the 3 mods from the download link below is not sufficient in my opinion). If you have a low-end machine I would recommend GC2, otherwise skip them both and try GC4. I think people aren't aware, and the store page doesn't mention this, but there is a shareware, regular and upgrade edition. The latter contains twice as much race tracks as the regular version making it 30 in total. It's nostalgic and charming (at least for me) but mediocre as a racing game. It was a cheap mariokart knock-off back in 1994 and the one I had most fun with compared to skunny kart or street racer. Still like the simplicity of it though. Pros + Upgrade Edition (30 tracks) + 2 player Splitscreen normal racing mode with CPU karts + Kid mode (only steer left and right with auto acceleration and ultra low speed) + Championship difficulty is very challenging + Smooth running preconfigured DOS version with autoscaling + Charming (music, sounds, animals, weaponized hedgehogs) + Multiple Taunts available in multiplayer + Remapping controls is possible Cons - Low default framerate (has nothing to do with performance) - No racing mechanics involved in terms of sliding - Not a good kart game and never was especially when compared to mariokart (SNES) It gets 4 stars because it's the upgrade edition, I'm nostalgic and runs smooth on win 7 (ran into green screen upon first launch which was solved by launching DOS configure executable via GOG Galaxy and selecting Ddraw). The only reasons why you want to pick this up are: Nostalgia Have an interest in gaming history Having kids and want them to play something simple (kid mode) You are into simple retro games Ideal to play in splitscreen with someone who has no skills (because you don't need any) If you are looking for a good mariokart clone then I would recommend Sonic Robo Blast 2 Kart because you won't find it in here. Happy hedgehog hurling!
The monsters you hire is a step down compared to DK1. I'm not excited about them. The dark atmosphere from the first game is largely gone, I don't like the cartoony vibe/looks. I see no reason to play the second game. This was my opinion back in the day and still is. Doesn't mean the game is bad, it's a personal preference.
The best entry in the Elder Scrolls series. Make sure you will look up how to build a character for beginners. I keep coming back to this game due to the excellent modding community. Land expansions like Tamriel Rebuilt and Skyrim Home of The Nords are highly recommended. OpenMW is an open source engine that comes along with gamepad, modern resolution support and better stability.
The game throws a lot of annoying enemies and traps at you. One particular map is full of traps and the only function it has is to annoy you (people quit the game when playing this map and for good reasons). Later on it combines traps with very strong enemies. At the end of the day I'm playing a game for fun and not to save scum at every step. It seems they haven't tested this game for fun. There is a potential for 5 stars but I will give it 2 due to improper game design. You have been warned.
