Beyond Good & Evil™

The best game no one bought

Beyond Good and Evil, was praised by the gamerpress all around when it launched, but for whatever reasons it got stuck on the shelves. Maybe it was just too early in 2003 the adventure genre was still dead, the revival came a few years later. But for adventure fans starved for a good game for years it was a godsend, Great graphics, sound a wonderful story and great characters. Get it now if you don't have it, but a gamepad is a must, for serious play even if the game has mechanics in play so that you don't need pixel perfect timing to hit your jumps and doges. I loved the game and could never understand why it just did not sell.

The Book of Unwritten Tales

Nice fantasy adventure

it is overall a nice adventure, great graphics and sound. The characters are fun and colorful. My gripe is that especially in the first chapters the game leans mostly on jokes and and scenes borrowed from other games and films, and these are not only hinted at but lifted nearly word for word.. The puzzles to find the book are one for one taken from the Indiana Jones movie. They even use the soundeffects. Later on the hints get subtler, and some are really great like playing an MMORG in a fantasy world. Another issue I had that some of the quest items are nearly impossible to find, as the active area is often quite small and the coursor (at least on the MAC port I played) sometimes just not registering the changes. But all in all a nice game to spend a few hours with an overall good story.
