Desperados III

Instant all-time-fav

Almost the best Commandos-like game. Imo, only Commandos 2 is slightly better but just because it has Coop-multiplayer.

Freeman: Guerrilla Warfare

Mount & Blade with Guns (almost)

Owning this game since April 2019. This game get's a lot of comparisons with M&B and it's not hard to see why. But after all there's no doubt that this is a good FPS game. Shootouts are genuinely tense and have a (semi) realistic feel. At the beginning you only have weapons with iron sights at your disposal and you can barely see your enemy which is absolutely fantastic and makes every kill meaningful. The devs significantly toned done the difficulty since early access and I'm personally not 100% sold on that. I loved the feeling in the first few hours that you can get rekt by a dozen looters but now you can rek them quite easily from the start. That being said, it's more accessible now and feels less grindy. The world itself is not as interesting as M&B but they've added a lot of regions and combat maps since EA. Lemme tell you that the combat maps are beautiful and raiding camps has been improved significantly. Also, the world isn't incredibly immersive and it has some grind in it. But I don't regret my purchase at all.

Stranglehold

Great and special shooting game

Played this numerous times on Xbox and it's glorious! John Woo has created some of the movies ever like Bullet in the Head, Hard Boiled, Face Off, Red Cliff (director's cut), Windtalkers (director's cut / yes, go judge me) and then the very best movie of all time: The Killer (also with Chow Yun-Fat) Being a gigantic fan of John Woo, I gotta say that Stranglehold's story doesn't hold a candle to the movies. It's fine and it has his signature. Still quite entertaining. Not more, not less. But the gameplay... That's where its at! It makes you feel like a complete badass when you shoot at someone and everything around that person just get wrecked and throws sparks all over the place. Can't wait to play this again on PC after more than 10 years.

Worms Armageddon

Pure MP-fun

Great MP game for everyone. Try playing it in Hotseat with someone who ACTUALLY HATES videogames or DOESN'T CARE for that stuff and see how they laugh and enjoy themselves. Afterwards you converted them to play games. Tap yourself afterwards on the shoulder. Nuff said, son. Go get it

Europa Universalis

First 4X-game that I've played

I never was interested in 4X titles until few weeks ago and decided to give EU1 a chance. I'm really liking it a lot, especially when most mechanics become second nature and you dive deep into the economy/strategic stuff. For newcomers I'd advice to play the tutorial more than once and maybe skip the scenarios for some time. There's just too much information to take in that it becomes overwhelming although I can see that it may offer endless replay value (lots of nations and different victory conditions). Fantasia where it's at imo. Every faction starts with one city and then you start expanding. That way you get to understand the game's mechanics easier and it's incredible fun. The screenshots don't do this game justice as it's visually more appealing than you might think. Just charmimg stuff here. Seeing how the sequels apparently became more and more complex/in depth, EU1 is a great starting point for getting invested into 4X games as it's quite complex but approchable enough that you don't get demotivated and toss it away. I can see myself playing regularly a Fantasia scenario (different factions and victory conditions) for the years to come. Highly recommending this one.
