I like it a lot, I imported my very old savegames and continued right where I left off, so that's quite awesome. It runs very smoothly and I haven't had any problems or bugs so far. GOG NWN Diamond version was always problematic on my PC (stutterings, regular crashes to desktop, having to run it in compatibility modes etc.) and I was really glad to see Beamdog decided to enhance it. Regular campaign is quite boring and generic but both included expansions and extra modules are fun to play, and I also recommend playing The Aielund Saga campaign (available on Workshop) which I ran on the old NWN version. Mods work "out of the box", multiplayer has been revived and supported again, there's more enhancements and patches coming... all in all, good job Beamdog!
If you like classic first person shooters like Quake, Doom, Heretic or Blood, this game is a no-brainer, you should get it without a second thought. Along with Ion Fury and DUSK it is a fantastic and very, very well done retro-shooter. Graphics are gorgeous, it runs on pretty much any hardware (my PC is crap but it runs AE smoothly), it's fast and difficult and it has a great level design. Highly recommended!
This is hands down the best Diablo of them all. I played D2 and D3, but they do not come even close to D1 in tone or atmosphere. Pure gothic horror feeling and an amazing soundtrack, plus the gameplay still holds up 23 years later... what's not to like? Thank you GOG and Blizzard, you made me quite happy and I gave you my money with a huge grin on my face :)
I'm hooked. Avernum 1 remaster is a great game worthy of your time and attention if you like deep and story-rich crpgs. It's graphics and sound leave something to be desired, true, but crpgs are essentially about stories and choices, and this game has plenty of both. The combat and progression are simple to understand and use, and they offer a flexible way to develop your characters in any direction you like, whether you want a sword-wielding mage or a spellcasting warrior. Combine that with an open world where you can go in any direction you wish to explore, only to have your ass handed to you if you wander into a nasty encounter that does not scale to your pitiful level, and you have an excellent crpg that may keep you busy longer than many fancy schmancy puddle-deep AAA titles. And guess what - there's two more Avernum remasters waiting for you when you are done with this one, so that's awesome.
