I've owned Pillars of Eternity forever, and finally got around to playing it this week. Five hours in, and after reading a slew of reviews that state it doesn't get any better, and I uninstalled it from my computer, as the thought of suffering through more of this was unimaginable. The writing is ridiculously verbose, the voice acting worse, and the combat system just annoying -- I mean, why would I want to tell my characters what to do and then just sit there while they do it? And why are there so many enemies, I'm being mobbed everywhere I look? I expected Icewind Dale or Balder's Gate, two of my favorite games, as the graphics are initially similar. What I got was mind-numbing gameplay, far too many enormous walls of text and never ending conversations that cause you to completely lose immersion, lore that doesn't make a whole lot of sense, and, overall, a dull game I would rather poke my eyes out than play. Not recommended unless you like a book rather than a game.

Thought I'd give it a try as, even though I had zero interest in the sci-fi theme and preferred the fantasy themed earlier games, I tend to love everything Paradox puts out. Well, not this one. The campaign is dull, the tutorial is pretty much useless, and the game is so needlessly complex to understand, which is made worse by an interface that is so overly busy it takes forever to figure out what you should be doing. And sure, the game has depth, but so much of it just seems to have been shoved in there because...why not? This all serves to make the game huge but not interesting huge. Just frustrating huge. You also get the feeling Paradox is going to be pushing out DLC content for years after this thing's release, because God knows they love to make as much money as possible from a game. All in all, it's just a predominantly inaccessible game I have no interest in playing longer than the 10 hours or so I struggled with it.

Controls in this are absolutely abysmal if you use a keyboard. Gave up after 15 minutes. The game looks fun, the graphics are beautiful but, if you can't play it (I still haven't figured out how to pick anything up!) it's pointless and a waste of money.

Absolutely amazed GOG is still allowing people to buy a supposed 'full season' of this game when the developer announced they had gone bankrupt last week. Sure, Telltale is now saying they 'might' have a way of finishing the last two episodes of the game (with NO guarantee that will happen, and with NO credibility in their statement whatsoever) but as it stands now, this game is NOT finished and it is highly unlikely it will ever be finished. Do NOT buy. Otherwise you are just handing over your money to a developer that is already ripping off the 250 people they have just fired by not paying them any severance money,
