Ziggurat

Good little old skool FPS!

I've played it for 5 hours so far (over several days). Ziggurat is perfect for a quick blast for those occasions when you've not got the time to commit to a more complex game. It's a Fast paced single player with movement and dynamics similar to the original Quake, or OG Doom with a 3D mod. Nice crisp graphics, striking the right balance between colourful and gloomy. Atmospheric sound effects, and balanced difficulty (maybe a little to easy for the hardcore gamers- I no longer coumt among their number!). Theire's characters and weapons to unlock to give it depth and Online leaderboards, daily challenges and Acheivements make nice addition. And finally, you can dip in for a couple of levels then save and quit (as long as you're not in a room with enemies), to pick up where you left off next time you boot the game up. Anyone who liked the feel of the FPS games of the late 90's will like this

Total Annihilation: Kingdoms + Iron Plague

As good as it ever was.

It may not have been as popular or as ground breaking as it's scifi predecessor, but TA Kingdoms is still a worthy RTS in it's own right. Four Truly distinct factions (Five including the expansion). Stripped down resource collecting (Only one resource type). An interesting story mode (Though some people complain about swapping sides, as you play all factions in different chapters of the story). It may not have the depth of many later RTS titles, but it is a fun game.

Total Annihilation: Commander Pack

Classic RTS

This RTS was revolutionary at the time, with it's polygon unit graphics, reasonable attempt at line-of-sight, terrain effects on combat, and (albeit limited) unit veterancy. It's very playable, currently stable on windows 11 up to 1080p (at least), and at 1GB including both expansion packs an amazing RTS that wont clog up your entire HDD! True, both sides are a bit samey, but that criticism could be leveled at lots of quality examples of the genre [cough] C&C, [ahem, excuse me] Dark Reign. The single player campaigns are interesting, with ramping difficulties. Multiplayer was always fun- you have tons of units to choose from officially, with more available online. This is a game that still has a small but active community, with many mods and TC's that can be applied to the base game. If you enjoy an RTS game and never played TA- Give it a go!
