The Suffering: Ties That Bind

The Beast Within 2

What I liked about the game • I like the updated graphics. The monsters and the character models look much better. The updated graphics has made the violence and gore even more-over-the-top. • nice selection of weapons. The weapons feel punchier, compared to the first game. I also like the new weapon models. There is also a larger selection of melee weapons. • Interesting and disturbing antagonists like Blackmore and The Creeper. I like that Dr KillJoy makes a return. • I like the city Baltimore. Baltimore is a rundown, dark, Crime-ridden, and dirty city, which I found to be a perfect setting for the sequel. • The suffering has those little things I liked about the first game, like being able to interact with things, collecting notes and being able to read up about the different monsters and places, seeing Torque covered in blood after a brutal fight, and being able to change into an unstoppable monster. • Good soundtrack, which goes well with the game play. What I disliked or was disappointed with • Too much action. I didn’t like the idea of having to fight soldiers. • I didn’t like the new health recovery system. I preferred the health system in the first game . • Too many gun-type enemies. • I wasn’t keen on some of the ideas like exploring another prison, and revisiting areas. • The game isn’t very scary. • Some enemies are a bit too bullet-spongie. • The game is a bit buggy and glitchy. The A.I can be quite frustrating. Throughout the game Friendly NPC’s have shot and killed me. NPC’s have gotten themselves stuck. Enemies haven’t appeared, which results in having to restart the game. Conclusion The sequel starts off good, but then it starts to become more and more frustrating. The last quarter felt like a chore, because of the bullet-sponge enemies. I liked the updated graphics, new weapons, and antagonists. If you enjoyed the first game and want to see a conclusion to the series, then I recommend you buy this game.

The Suffering

The Beast Within

What I liked about the game +Awesome creature designs. The creature designs reminded me of the films like, The Thing, The Fly, and Hellraiser. +Tons of blood and gore. I like that you can shoot off enemy limbs. +I like that you can switch form 3rd-person to 1st-person. +You can interact with things in the environment. +I like the idea of a horror game taking place on Prison island. I enjoyed exploring the Asylum and Abbot prison. +I really enjoyed the games horror atmosphere, although in my opinion the game isn't on the same scare or unsettling level as Fear or Condemned Criminal origins, but the game does have its moments. +Nice small selection of weapons. The shotgun has a real good kick to it. +Interesting characters like Dr killjoy , Horace, and Hermes. +I like that the game has multiple endings (good, neutral and evil). The games morality system will determine which ending you will get. Throughout the game you will come across other prisoners and correctional officers and you can either help them or kill them. +I like that you can collect notes and read-up about the different monsters and places on the island. +Good soundtrack +I like that when you unleash your anger you turn into a monster that can almost on-shot everything. What I disliked or was disappointed with -The game could have done with more weapons. -I wanted the game to have been a bit more scarier. -The game is a pain to get running -Even with the unofficial patch I still came across a few bugs and glitches. -The checkpoint system could have been better. Conclusion I feel that the suffering is an underrated horror game gem. the game has fanastic creature designs. I like the idea that you play as a death row inmate who has to escape a prison island that has gone to hell. Most of the major issues I had with the game were with compatibility issues. If you enjoy games like Evil within, Resident Evil, or Dead space, then I highly recommend you buy this game.

Quake II

Quake returns

!!Important note!! I don't own quake 2 on gog, but I own it on steam. I won't be able to comment on any technical issues with the gog version. The steam version is missing the soundtrack, but I don't known about the gog verson. I am just reviewing the game. What I liked about this game + I loved the Sc-fi setting. + The gameplay is still very addictive and enjoyable. + A great selection of weapons. My favourite weapons were the railgun and the hyperblaster. + Larger levels compared to the first Quake. Each level has a set of objectives which you need to complete. + Plenty of secrets to be found throughout the levels and there are also secret levels. + The game provides a good challenge to FPS players. + Plenty of awesome looking enemies to turn into big chunk of gore. What I disliked or was disappointed with - Powerups weren't that useful this time round; I didn't feel like I needed them. Conclusion Better than the first game in my opinion, because I prefered the Sci-fi setting. I highly recommend this game to any FPS fan.
