Messiah

Great idea, poor game

I played through this game brand new. Interesting idea: Take control of characters by possessing them. This was useful when the characters were tough brutish guards and soldiers... but most of the time they were scientists or night shift security. But the game fell flat on it's soft pink face when crash after crash made it near impossible to complete a level. Soon I was fighting the game rather than the characters in the game in order to win it. Even at this price, pass.

Unreal Gold

One of the greatest classic shooters

This is the shooter game that I cut my teeth on. This game opened me up to a whole new type of game. For me, there was no Quake or Doom... there was only UNREAL! The plot is simple: You are a prisoner. Your transport ship crashes on an unknown planet and you must escape the wreckage and find a way off this rock. But the alien tribes controlling this rock are not very friendly to outsiders. As you progress, you get bigger and better guns and even your standard sidearm can be upgraded (first time this was ever done n a game to my knowledge). One of the accolades of this game was the lighting. When Quake and Doom were still dimmly lighting corridors with white and orange, UNREAL used every color light that was posible to accent building features, point out plot-critical areas, and enhance mood. For all this, the price is a steal, but UNREAL comes with it's own level editor called UnrealEd. You can tinker away to your hearts delight making and modifying levels all while learning valuable game design techniques. MUST OWN!

Unreal Tournament 2004 Editor's Choice Edition

MUST OWN for any Shooter Fan

Unreal Tournament was the quintessential multiplayer frag 'em game of the early 2000's. UT2K4 is the best of the entire series! The gameplay is fast and furious and the graphics are impressive even on a low end system. I build cheap computers for families and student. When I pop in UT2K4 and hook them up to a LAN game, every eye in the house is watching the screen. I have friends who are not considered gamers, yet even they push their way into a chair and ask about controls. As for the gameplay, it's a straightforward shooter game with not much plot in the single player mode. You are an athlete in the Unreal Tournament games which pit humans, robots and aliens against each other in brutal firefight duels to the death. You must win your way up a ladder and through the championship in order to secure the trophy. You have an arsenal of weapons to use that are scattered around the levels. And your opponents will obviously be tougher and tougher to beat the higher you climb the ladder. But it's in multiplayer mode that the game really shines. Integrated chatting system and voice comm help keep you connected to your friends. And there is no greater rush than to go up against another human player. Well worth the download price. Download for a friend and I bet you two will have an amazing time with this game.

FlatOut

Great crash'em game!

I was a huge fan of the Burnout series, but still a hardcore gamer. When I first played a demo of FLATOUT, I was hooked. The game has great crash physics and seeing your body fly into the road is usually good for a chuckle or two. But this game is one of my favs because it's just a great arcade racer. Worth the download price!

Gothic

Open ended role play

This is one of those games that either you love... or you just don't get. It's got a very open ended world that allows you to go anywhere and do anything. However, you can quickly lose sight of your main objectives. Some fans consider it more of an alive fantasy environment to interact with than an actual game with a plot. In game characters have lives, history, daily routines, even celebrate certain days of the years with traditional rituals and decorations.

Ghost Master

A Creepy Take on Sims

I love this game. My kids and I play it every now and then. Your job is to use a team of ghosts to accomplish fiendish tasks like scaring families away or unlocking a sinister demon. It's incredibly fun to try different ways to scare people and see their reactions. One of our favorite parts is to make the kids possessed and terrify the adults. It's fun for laughs as the characters act pretty goofy. Excellent thinking game also. You have to consider your ghosts strengths and weaknesses and use the right ghost for the right job.
