Mirror's Edge™

Concept game

This game is all about doing parcour through the levels while someone is shooting at you. Not much else to it. Its interesting to play because of its original concept but becomes tedious as the game progresses. The controlls feel a little clunky. The combat moves are difficult to time and unfortunately there are a lot of combat situations. Visualy it has a destinct comic-like look where the primary colors and contrast are exaggerated which sometimes looks bland. It tells its story trough short animations, that felt detatched from the rest of the experience. Oh, and the protagonist is a terrorist.

SOMA

Generic and basic in every aspect

A boring game that is inferior to popular titles of this genre, like Observer and Alien Isolation. There is absolutely nothing original about Soma. The gameplay is the most basic "hide-from-monster" variant that I've ever seen. There are only two types of enemies that are both non-threatening, unless they are blocking your only path and won't move, forcing you to reload. The AI is a joke. The graphics look 15 years old. The graphic style is absolutely generic and contibutes nothing to the game. The levels are mostly empty and you spend a lot of time just walking through them without anyting happening. The only thing that gets you going is the story at the beginning. This is the only time that the game builds up suspense.

Shadow Warrior 2

Not recommended for people with a brain

My favourite moment is when there are only rats on the level and you have to kill about 500 of them. It's basicaly the same game this developer has been making, for the third time. Only now they didn't bother to introduce a new idea. Even worse, they forgot to put in cool weapons and a story. Kill monsters, collect loot, kill monsters, collect loot... Some 80's nostalgia and a lot of gore are thrown in to entertain you for about an hour. That's how long it will take you to realise that the game has nothing else to offer and you feel like you're wasting your time. The art style just recycles SW1 and HardReset and the graphics would have been outdated 10 years ago. There are also some serious gameplay issues: On medium difficulty most of the enemies do very little damage, while on hard you run out of bullets all the time and have to face enemies in melee who have a damaging aura.
