Had no idea what to expect from this one, particularly as I'd never heard much about it, but I've put a couple of hours into it, and it's really surprisingly fun! A fairly light dungeon crawler, but engaging and well paced. Great stuff!!
Pan-Pan is a very minimalist experience - it throws you into a colourful little world and allows you to figure everything out for yourself. There's no dialogue, no fighting, statistics, just interesting puzzles with some satisfying solutions and the chance to enjoy exploring this place. It's not too long, not too complex, but it's a sweet little game and a decent way to spend an evening.
Beautiful art, unique gameplay, thought-provoking writing and a wonderful soundtrack; everything that The Banner Saga is made up of work together in harmony to create a fantastic experience - and gosh is the word 'Saga' appropriate for this story. Hope, desperation, anguish, betrayal and the chance to be a hero make this story something definitely worth experiencing, and combat mechanics that take time to learn, but rarely feel overwhelming, make the battles as intense as one would hope for. A very satisfying experience.
I was initially worried by the fact that this was a real time game. I figured it'd end up getting too frustrating for me, too overwhelming, too unfair. Maybe I was worried that it would stop being fun. Happily, Satellite Reign stays fun, open and rewarding to the very end. The open world style of the game really adds to it; once you become familiar with the systems, it's very cool to take on new areas, formulate new strategies and unlock new gear. The design rewards creative gameplay with plenty of options to choose from - in comparing notes with a friend, it was clear we played the game with totally different strategies. The presentation is superb; a great aesthetic, both aurally and visually, and it really adds to the feel of the whole game. Absolutely compelling, and well worth a look. I hope to see more of this.
Superb graphics, lovely writing and a great mix of puzzles make this an excellent game. The attention to detail in this game is very impressive, and there's enough content here to keep you playing for several hours. Definitely recommended for fans of point and click adventures.
