Foundation

It took a while but its good

I've played foundation for a long time now, and I really struggled with the last upgrades. But I stuck with it and finally I'm putting it back on my list of favourites. Its more complicated, and you have to forget a lot of what you learned for the prior versions, but its worth it, stick with it.

Synergy

Pleasant but incomprehensible

This game is charming in many ways, but even half way through all the tutorial actions I am mostly still unsure what I am supposed to do. Guesswork has got me so far, but its not my preference

Cultures

a game requiring patience but extensive

I played this game more than 20 years ago and remember it with fondness. It requires patience, its a slow moving game until the infrequent (thankfully) fight when you lose any control. Its basically an exploration and building game, no upgrades to anything. But if you like a game to chill to this just might do it

Airborne Kingdom

Differently challenging

This game makes you think in a different way from most, the key challenge being to ensure you collect resources when they are in range, find relics so you can buy additional technologies, and recruit enough people to populate your flying city and run your technologies. I come back to this every now and then and play it from start to end over a few days, and always enjoy it.

Kingdoms and Castles

A pleasant little game

This is quite a simple game which I return to when I want to fill some time in a relatively peaceful way. Yes, you are attacked, but you can choose the level and you have time to prepare appropriately. There are no building upgrades, but the attackers do grow in strength and number so you really just keep on building until you've had your fill.

Planetbase

A quite challenging time filler

I've played Planetbase for many years now. When I want something for an hour or two which is challenging at the beginning. It does become less interesting as your base grows in size, though the different options you can play are fun when you first try it
