It's been a long, long time, but I finally returned to this classic. The nostalgia was intoxicating. Despite its primitiveness, this game is still remarkably solid. It would work as mobile game or some other platform even today. Of course there are turn-based startegy games that do more. Deeper terrain mechanics, more hero options, spells, you name it. But it's actually the brutal simplicity of this game that draws me back. The original "just-one-more-turn" game. And at a few bucks on special, defintiely worth the buy. The only disappointmnet was that the map editor doesn't work in this version.
Thoroughly enjoyed this game. Great old school feel to the gameplay but it feels fresh. Not very deep or long, but not too short. Great balance. I'm really liking the Steamworld franchise. Cool story and characters. Basically, you dig through levels looking for precious stones, that you then sell and exchange for upgrades. Loads of special levels with plenty of challenges. Great classic boss battle at the end. Plays like a platformer, with jumping, and tunnelling gives a level of startegy to your approach. Worth a look.
