Star Trek Armada remains the best Trek game I've ever played! The fact that Activision never tried to make an Armada 3 should be seen as one of the greatest failures in their history! The game does show it's age, it's animations, especially during cut scenes are a bit clunky, however the sound work is fantastic and the ships and stations in game are very recognizable and still hold up even today, in my opinion! Sadly, as a result of it's age the game does suffer from a CTD (Crash to desktp) bug that has been a part of the game from its inception. Generally it only happens when you have a ton of ships and stations all doing things at once. This typlically occurs for me only when i'm playing multiplayer against 7 computer factions and am going a bit ham with my fleets and actions! I've not had this happen during the singleplayer campaign, however. So, its a minor issue, and generally only happens once the game has already been won anyway! The biggest turn off for the game is that the old multiplayer servers were hosted by WON and are no longer in operation, so fan made workarounds have to be installed and used to enjoy the true multiplayer experience. These services and changes, as well as mods, both classic and modern, are available via fansights, so map making, and multiplayer games are still out there if you are willing to put in that extra bit of work and effort, which was a huge part of the game as i remember it when it was still in active use and supported by the devs! All in all, I'd absolutely recommend this game to any Star Trek fans and folks who enjoy real time strategy games like Warcraft, Starcraft, and Age of Empires!
