The Wheel of Time

A flaming fun time!

I heard about this game after getting through a few of the books and I got it physically, though I couldn't get it to run on modern hardware. When the GOG version came out I was glad to hear the problems had been fixed. If you are a fan of the books the game's story is meant to slide in without knocking anything from the main series out of place. (At the time of the game's release, Winter's Heart wasn't out.) The art direction is pretty exact to what I had in mind when reading, and the music by Robert Berry (later compiled in "A Soundtrack for the Wheel of Time") had some good tracks along with some odd ones... Some things aren't book accurate in terms of their use or power as it is a videogame after all. As for the gameplay, it's a classic Unreal shooter; beautiful architecture and tough enemy layout that at times border on impossible. Overall the singleplayer is longer than I thought it would be and was an okay shooter with a few too many weapons/abilities to keep up with. I haven't tried the multiplayer mode but it's like a defense based game where you place units awaiting waves of enemies. Also, for the love of the light, stay after the end credits... May your road lead to warm sands.
