Heretic has obtuse level design. Hexen is Heretic on steroids, the levels are hideously complex. With the new remaster, there are tools for people like me who don't enjoy wandering lost an empty level trying to find the one switch I missed. You can call me a skyrim-headed idiot who can't survive without a quest marker, but I genuinely could not make it past the second level of Hexen before this. Not because the enemies are hard, but because I couldn't figure out where i was supposed to go. A little quality of life goes a long, long way-
Lol. Lmao, even. Honestly the most mid a game can be. It's not actively bad, there's no part of it that's hostile to being played, but it's just not very pretty, and it's not more fun than other shooters, and the environments aren't inspired
but nothing is as good as Alpha Centauri. It's pretty, though, and runs on even the worst machine imaginable. The gameplay is as expected, and the factions are dumbed-down caricatures of the interesting ideas in SMAC. I'm not telling you to play SMAC instead of Pandora. You've already played SMAC. But this is good too, even if it never catches up to the original.
