Hedon is a criminally underrated gem put together by one absolute mad lad who had a passion for drawing thicc orc and goblin girls, created an entire world full of lore for them, and then used that passion and drive to learn how to make a game out of it. The artwork and technical feats pulled off here make me very often forget that this runs on GZDoom engine. It's seriously very impressive work! Level design is incredible, and the attention to detail continues to impress me the more I play the game and examine it. The puzzles are not simple key hunting like a Doom game. There are loads of quest items to find and use to make your way through the levels. Maybe you need to power up a switch with a crystal, knock down a wall with a pickaxe, or dig around with a shovel. Sometimes you need to craft items. Read all the scrolls you find! Not only do they expand the lore of the world, they will give you clues for how to make progress. The weapons are all outstanding. They sound great, feel good to use, and they all have alternate fire modes giving you the right tool for every type of situation. Also, as in games like Heretic and Hexen, you'll get plenty of items for powerups and healing on the go. Don't forget to use them! They make a huge difference for big battles. I enjoyed it so much on my first playthrough on Hardcore, that I started ANOTHER playthrough the following day (something I rarely do for games) using a different difficulty, Bearzerk, which is an entirely different way to play it and definitely worth going through again with. Seriously, give this a game a go.
