Planescape: Torment

Updated my journal

Planescape: Torment is, essentially, one of the deepest narratives in gaming history. Building on the highly successful isometric style of the Baldur's Gate series, Torment takes the player into a world with such depth that twenty hours of playtime will have you scratching the surface. The player takes the guise of the Nameless One, a man scarred beyond recognition who has lost his memory. Awakening on a slab in a mortuary, the Nameless One must journey through bustling city blocks, hellish wastes and dark caverns on the path to uncover the events that led to his current predicament. Along the way allies can be recruited, and the sheer variety of the selection is astounding. A flying, talking skull with a penchant for cussing out his opponents is just the beginning, and it gets better from there. If the game has any weaknesses, it would be the dated UI and the sheer vastness of the thing. Many modern gamers will likely find it hard to work their way through the game simply due to the massive amount of content at hand (and the occasional difficulty spike, which will demand new tactics). This is a game for those who like to get involved in the story and bunker down in front of their screen. To summarise, Planescape: Torment is an excellent game with a fantastic story and depth. Its age and difficulty are its only major weaknesses, and neither is more than a minor annoyance. This is the second most requested game on GOG for a reason; it is, by far, one of the best games ever made in the genre.

Two Worlds Epic Edition

Good Old Game? Not so sure...

First of all, I don't understand why GOG added this game to the site. It is neither old, nor good. The story is a badly written mess of fantasy clichés and wonky characters. The graphics are very uneven. Sometimes the game looks quite good, sometimes not so good... This game had potential but generally failed at everything. Want to upgrade a sword? Just put two swords that look alike onto eachother. Repeat this and you have a sword that instant-kills anything in the game. The game lacks where and RPG shouldn't. Weak story, bad characters. You can create a quite unique character. The problem is that the skill/magic system is badly balanced and actually, a mess. I don't understand how peple can give this game 4 and 5's. If youre thinking of picking up Two Worlds, buy one of the other GOOD OLD RPG's that GOG has. This is a waste of money.
