Well, it's an improvement over the originals. I can't say they made anything WORSE. It's easier to run and plays better on modern machines. At time of writing, they've listed off a bunch of stuff they're planning to patch, so not sure why they didn't just do those things before they released it since most of them have been a bug for 20 years now. But, eh! It's still fun.
I remember playing this for houuuurs way back when it was a contemporary game. Guess what: Still fun!
This is almost like taking an Elder Scrolls game, making it top-down, and adding co-op. The amount of little nuanced things in this game is amazing... just... stealing the paintings off the walls?! S'great.
Just buy this. Really. Just do it. Then go download the FreeSpace Open Source Project installer, and the MediaVPs. You'll end up with a shiny 'new' space simulator looking like it was written in 2013-ish with great gameplay, graphics, and the whole shebang.
