Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943

A great start to a great series

Like the title says, it's a great game, but it does lack polish. The UI can be cumbersome, as can the gameplay, but still, it's a wonderful time if you enjoy strategy games. The game is divided into two parts. An operational phase where you move your troops, allocate auxillary units etc. and the combat. Now, the AI always all that bright, but don't let that stop you. It is still very much enjoyable and the presentation is not something you can get in any other serious RTS game. The maps are vast and can take a good chunk of time to complete, but it is just so enjoyable to watch the battle unfold that it more than makes up for the lack of polish and AI. I haven't played this one in a long while, so I don't recall the size or number of campaigns that are available, but I would assume it's one for each side, the axis and soviets. Also, I think there was the ability to make your own battles. Basically you just plop down some units on the map and play. I would strongly recommend you watch a video of this game and at least consider it if you have even a passing interest in serious RTS games. But, unless you're looking to complete the set or just can't wait, I have to say the next game in the series, "Operation Star" is vastly superior, if still as unintuitive as ever. Still, definitely worth a buy.
