Little Nightmares

Unsettling, creepy, and beautiful!

Little Nightmares is a fantastic little horror game that will last you about a good 5 hours. It's a puzzle platformer with danger and tension around every corner. The satisfying platforming and rewarding gameplay keeps you going, polished to a mirror shine. A great and memorable story awaits as you survive through this short but sweet journey. Here is a summary of the Pros (+) and Cons (-) found in Little Nightmares: + Amazing graphics! Little Nightmares takes full advantage of Unreal Engine 4. Grotesque details, textures that really pop, and amazing effects. The artstyle is striking, straight from the mind of a madman inspired by Tim Burton. + Terrifying foes! The main centerpiece of Little Nightmares are the enemies that you spend your time sneaking around, avoiding, and running away from. "The Janitor" is pretty much the worst, and is nightmare fuel personified. The art on him is brilliant, and sends chills through my very soul. That abomination reminds me very much of the unsettling illustrations found in the classic "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark"! + The story is great and will leave you wanting more. It will also make you wonder about the nature of hunger, survival, and consuming things. There is still plenty of mystery left over after the credits roll. - Not enough chilling or unsettling imagery. At the beginning of the game, you see something that will leave an insane impact upon you. I found that there wasn't enough subtle horror moments, since you spend a lot of your time just sneaking around or running away from fairly chilling foes. There are some great moments of creepy atmosphere or ambience, but these moments are few and far between. - Some encounters just seem unfair and very unclear with what you are supposed to do. I died more times than I could count just because of these moments! It sometimes feels more about luck, insane timing, and threading a needle. Luckily, this isn't always the case. - Game is far too short. I want more!
