I LOVE kicking the undead off a cliff. The REALLY BAD is the constant clipping and falling outside the game, to your death. Movement is plain AWFUL, slow and anemic, like you were a terminal COPD patient. The cool down for swings or blocking is IGNORANT and roughly twice what the mobs experience. Couple the stupid deaths with a really LAME console type save system and the good sours quickly. On sale for $3 is really $2.99 too much. It lost its place on my ssd to a fan made GZDoom mod.
Movement is nice and flows well. The problem lies in the stamina meter and the fact that swinging your tiny sword once takes 15% of it. Jumping takes another not insignificant %. It is like our hero has COPD and needs a portable oxygen tank. Couple that with the weak sauce pistol and your recipe is not rising. I really don't like the alien doors that you have to tank on the chin most of the time for the remote possibility of a reward. Occasionally there is a handy barrel around but not often.
There is nothing good to say about this lemon. Save your money and time and downoad a DoomerBoards Project GZdoom mod, it will be MUCH BETTER.
For a GZdoom game this is just so-so. The movement is poor, OMG how slow is this $%#^$. The weapons are ho-hum techno stuff with little "feel" of destruction. I'm a HUGE GZDOOM fan and many awesome mods and TC have come from it, but this is NOT ONE of them. The colors are terrible, enemies blend into the monochrome backgrounds like they were stickers on the walls. Overall the graphics are some of the worst I've ever seen in a game made in the 21st century. They call them retro, I call them 3rd grader crayon style graphics. Save your money and download ANYTHING from the DoomerBoards Project and you will be MUCH happier. I don't have a monster machine so I expected some bit of lag but this game chokes frequently, but only briefly. I run Selaco or Ashes2036 without issues, so there is some optimization that needs to be down.
It seems fun though I am not a fan of the art style. My complaint is I keep falling thru the floor in the elevator. A terrible end to a run. The same levels over and over are not for me, nor is the repetitious rogue style game. That said it plays nice and will appeal to alot of folks, just not me in particular.
My only real complaint is the Dev's hardcoded the cheat keys to the arrow keys which I use for movement. I am old and not getting "gud" anymore so I activated the dev console and suddenly my movement keys end the level or send me to the hub. All I wanted was some more ammo but thats not going to happen. Refunded...
This game is a hidden gem and one of my all time favorite shooters. The humor is juvenile, lotta Wang jokes, but I still laughed. Combat is fun, snappy movement with double jump, dash and dodge options. The sword fighting was fun, not too complicated but with enough variety that your not just button mashing. The guns are a blast with a robust modding system allowing you to change your ammo or other type of characteristics on the fly for best use against various enemies. "The way of the wang is long and hard..."
