Fallout Classic

One of the best of the RPG genre

There really isn’t much to say about fallout that hasn’t already been said, but I’ll add my voice to the throng. The game starts in an interesting setting which also has the benefit of being almost unique, at least at the time. The character customisation is excellent allowing you to provide several different character concepts. The combat is fun and reasonably tactically complicated, although it is definitely the weakest point of the game and can possibly seem to drag on, especially with the endless rad scorpion encounters. Combat is not the only way of dealing with situations in fallout and it is conceivable to go through the game causing an absolute minimum of killing, even if you may not be able to escape it entirely. The real shining beacon of this game though is in how it reacts to your choices. Rather than forcing a good/evil meter on the player it instead has every choice have a logical and understandable consequence. These quickly add up and the game world constantly feels alive as a result. In short it is one of the few games that actually manages to give player choice in a meaningful way. Importantly it also manages to make this FUN. The story itself is also pretty good, though the initial 150 day time limit on the first half may annoy some. In short, if you are even vaguely interested in rpgs and can stand turn based combat you should absolutely give this game a go. You won’t regret it.
