It's sad to say but it it true. Game itself is quite fun but totally broken saving makes it totally unplayable. I've personally tried few ways I found online to tackle this problem (not saving) but nothing works. Why GoG is not adressing this issues or remove broken games from their platform is beyond my understanding. DON'T Ever Try To Pay Money For This Game Or You Will Waste Money. I got this for free so no harm to my walet.
I would recommend saving you're hard earned money on something else but in the end of the day you will be the one who will regret... I've completed the main story line twice to see different endings and there is nothing in it that would make me play this game ever again.
So I got it when it was free on GoG, did't really think much about it. But decided to try it... Game play is a bit repetitive(but fun!), get resources, expand your ship, upgrade/research new clones and weapons, explore more galaxy, kill pirates, repeat until you Genesis(settle a new earth). Pay no attention to the reviews about cleaning out spores/aliens from your ship all the time, it's really simple to play well and NOT have to do that. You will only see a small part of any planet(real small). Game play is that little part of the planet and on your ship or on a pirate ship. You will get to shoot a lot. AI is not great, but you will be out numbered at times(pirate ship and going solo on planets). Each play you will unlock more things for your next play until you unlock everything(rougelite), there is a lot to unlock.
And interesting enough that what this game is about! Getting back to this masterpiece after 19 years is something unique. I've recently played C&C Remastered Collection but will admit that playing Original War is next level experience for a fraction of the price for C&C... Must have for every RTS head! Thank you so much GOG for letting me know that this game is still alive!!
