Quake 2 is good, some say it's the worst ID put out, but I'm with Civvie, if Quake 2 is your worst game, you must be a great company. NightDive has updated a few things which improved the campaign, but it's still quite easy, specially because you can use your power ups whenever you want which trivializes bosses. If compared with Doom, the enemy count is a lot smaller, the enemy roster is less memorable, the levels are claustrophobic, and the lack of good setpieces and traps leave you a little boring for most of the campaign. I remember playing the expansions years ago, and remember they are harder, but I didn't play them here yet, only the main campaign. In general, it's still fun to play, but go for higher difficulties if you are experienced in FPS. If I change my mind when I play the other campaigns, I'll update this review.
While Zelda is undoubtfully better in most aspects, this game is surprizingly competent. One thing in particular I have to praise it is that when it mentions places you never have been, it always give you a way to discover where they are. Though I guess a better map would be a better solution. Another high point is that is localized in many languages, which is great. As for the rest, I believe most 2D Zelda games did better. Especially the bosses, they are really underwhelming here, and could be seen as just a strong enemy. But well, if you want a game similar to Zelda, this one isn't bad by any means, just not as good. Just bear in mind they probably didn't get a Nintendo budged to work with.
It's cool. A new look into the Metal Slug franchise. The graphics are pixel art, but it's great for as far as pixel art goes, I'm not a big fan when the pixels are too big, but it's very well animated and the comedy is here. Gameplay wise, the ideas here are great, specially the sincronization, brings a new layer of tatical level.
The game is good for the few missions, but after a while you gonna notice that there is no variety on the gameplay. No bosses, very, very few gimmick stages, no new moves to unlock, and no secrets that aren't the coins. The coins also have a poor design for the one and only collectable. The tonic system while interesting in concept, it wasn't well implemented. The quills they multiply are an infinite collectable, that you can just go and do a stage again to get more, so there's nothing unique. Despite being based on a great game, they only imported one of the things that made it great. As such this game should be a lot shorter, because it really overstays its welcome.
If you like walk around, climb walls and see some magic puzzles, this is your game. If you want a plot, a lore or characters, stay away. You are boy who wakes up in a island (aparently after your ship sank) and that is it. 1 hour in the game and that's all I got. No explanation at all. Well, I like my games to have some story, context and character. So not for me. sorry. The graphics are good by the way.
The game is very promissing. I has a great length, and the story is very interesting. This game is also the first visual novel that I saw that made me want an option that wasn't there, the option "Ava, take command, I will do it myself" near the end of the game. But outside that, everything in the story part worked very nice to me. Gameplay-wise it is weak and hard, very hard, or I did the wrong build, it also have some difficulty spikes on the 4 stage, and when that robot that shut your systems down appear, destroying all your strategy. I must be really bad on this game, that even on easy I couldn't beat it. The game just send waves after waves against you with too many units. Fortunately this was corrected on the next game of the franchise, but I do suggest you take care on this one. The thing I liked the most is how this game can make things epic with its kickass soundtrack, one of the best I ever see for a visual novel. Well, even taking aside the thing I didn't liked the game is good and I recommend it.
Oh boy! What a story! Really good and really locks you on the screen. I only complain is that it is a little confuse. Maybe it was I who didn't pay the deserved attention, but But that scene on Diode where things got explained, confused me much. But anyway, The game sure knows how to make things epic, but it is kinda epic all the time. I believe it was because the game was dubbed, and that got it more expensive to get it long, with good interludes between its epicness and that kinda turn the next epic moments looks really forced, kinda diabolus ex machina, but it is not enough to mess the enjoyment. I mean, each battle looks it will be the last one, I think this is fail of design, but considering what they wanted to do here, it is acceptable. I just think that more things could happen before the liberation day, leaving it as the last battle, but instead it was battle was broken in segments. About gameplay, it has a very large improvement from the past one, and I really suggest the devs to fuse both games under the gameplay of Liberation Day, because the strategic part feels shallow since the game is shorter and has less battles, fusing with the Mask of Arcadius would make things more important, but that would require a serious amount of work. hope they do it someday, even if they want to launch as a separate game, since Mask of Arcadius is free, I would buy it, jsut don't charge the prize of two full games, it won't take that much of work. For the last, I think it may be a bug, or funds ended before the game, but the last part isn't dubbed as the rest. Well, anyway, the game is really recommended if you want an epic story, but as for the strategic part, I wouldn't hold my breath, you will find better games out there.
