I own this on both pc and switch, they are identical in the gameplay but... the pc version has some bugs the switch version does not. Sometimes I have to deal with immortal enemies when taking a fort. I shoot them, I melee them, they can kill me I cannot kill them. This does not exist on the switch version, a quick patch should do this. Also I would love a total conquest mode which would allow me to take over all sectors. It ends once I capture 4 of the 5 forts on the map, I would like to take every state and all forts for a victory. A quick addition in the free mode would be perfect! That having been said, buy the pc version on discount, dont buy it at full price. Its fun aside from the game breaking bugs... took me 5 months to take a single fort because of it!

This game is one of my favorites of all time. Its a little clunky but system shock 2, along with deus ex, were the founding baselines for the rps genre as a whole. As the title states, my uncle was a release engineer for looking glass studios and is credited in the games credits. He's also listed as the Installer Programmer on the moby games page for this game. I remember him telling me countless stories about the development of this game, and how bad crunch time was. Irrational games was founded by three employees from looking glass studios. They decided to form their own company, but they were on such good terms with their former employers, they ended up being able to use some of the Looking Glass Studios office space. As the development for system shock 2 grew, more and more cubicals were filled by irrational employees, and less by looking glass. Soon his cubical was surrounded by employees from irrational. He still keeps in contact with the developers to this day, and the system shock remake/reboot is also being made by many of the same guys. Looking forward to it all.

The game is very reptitive, first playthrough was on normal difficulty. After the 2nd boss the difficulty spiked insanely. Went from taking almost no damage per hit, to taking 1/4th my health per hit (680 health at that point). Third boss did me in, not because the boss was hard, but because of the level design on the boss. The adds and conveyor belts prevented me from getting a good angle on it. Music is great, aesthetics are great, part selection is very broad for multiple styles of play. Its not something I would continue to play, and playing it more than once a week would cause it to get old very quickly. I got it on sale, and if you like this sort of thing, I would recommend you do the same.
