After being spoilt by the glory of Tropico 4 I found this game to be lacking. The buildings sit wrong and appear partially submerged, and the voice acting is painful to hear. I lasted about an hour or so on this game before uninstalling it, then I replayed Tropico 4.
I have had the pleasure of playing some of the all-time great games; Final Fantasy X, Command and Conquer Red Alert and GTA San Andreas spring to mind. This game is an equal to these games and I cannot fault it, but I can improve it. How? There should be an option in Sandbox mode to play the Modern Times DLC without the timeline. The timeline always hijacks any Modern Times DLC playthrough.
I applaud the game developer's aesthetic, it is beautiful. But... The developer is more interested in bloatware than resolving the game mechanic issues, ie. broken character movement, awful collision detectors, hideous button-mashing combat, high-lighting areas that cannot be reached, a frozen character until additional input, the list goes on and on. Example: Just try to use the watering can on any action including it's primary purpose, guaranteed failure 1 in 10 times at least. The developer has had years to resolve these problems but hasn't bothered.
Any game that hijacks a playthrough with timers or maximum turns is a complete cop-out. Part of any military expedition involves scouting which always takes time, this game is essentially just rush to targets and mob attack before the turn limit arrives. Where are the tactics in that? Also, why must I start with the historically losing side and then pay more money for the rest of the game?
I played this game years ago and enjoyed it when it was first released. Something is different now or the rose-tinted glasses have been removed. I now consider this game to be boring, repetitive and the voice acting to be really annoying. But then I probably have matured in much the same way.
