The game has the best implementation of realism and uncertainty of real life warfare into digital version. It's the most authentic representation of medieval battle on the market right now. It's good, challenging and won't hold your hand unlike Total War series. If Total War is to be played by casual and hollywood esque player than Field of Glory series are the very antithesis of that. Shame there is no campaign map here, but the battle sims is more than made up for it. This is a game for historical esthusiast that care more for the minutiae detail of medieval warfare than flashy shiny animation yet shallow which is what Total War has become sadly.
This is the very definition of what AAA quality game should be and forefather of CoD series (that CoD is a hugely successful franchise owes to this game), it's graphics are aged well and still considered decent looking, it's gameplay although abit outdated but still better than most nowadays shooter, and it's audio is absolutely opera quality (yes, it is that good). The content are massive enough (which contains 1 base game and 2 expansions for the price of 10$ or less on sale). Buy it, it's a no brainer for a WWII fps fans and if you aren't one, with this game, you will soon be!
Played long time ago, and finally bought it DRM free in a sale, it still has it's charming factor, addictive and well made. Don't let the game's 2D graphics disheartened you to buy it, it's actually one that made the game truly timeless and aged very well (the graphics is very beautiful "artistically", not technically). I believe, this game is among the best GOG has to offer and for a city builder lover, this game is a MUST! You won't regret it. There is a widescreen patch as well (since the game didn't support high resolution nor widescreen), just check on the forums and you will find it. It's easy to use and I think is a must if you want to enjoy the game with proper resolution as the game looks great with it.
This game is different and trying to be different than any other RPG in the market nowadays. It has it's own originality, it's moment, it's depth as well. I say, this game has a feature similar to AD&D and has a interactive dialog like Dragon Age or Baldur's Gate. This game by no means casual! The reason why I give this game 5 stars is because it is trying to be different and original, that's in my opinion, deserves 5 stars. The Storyline is great, not too complex but has depth and easy to understand. The Graphics is very much average, but for me, gameplay and storyline is more important than graphics. Conclusion, this game isn't for casual or everyone but for a serious gamer that enjoy being challenged, thinking and willing to take time to master the mechanic.
At first glance, I am in doubt whether this game is an engrossing game or just a low budget game from an independent small studio as well. Turn out, it is engrossing. The gameplay is realistic and challening, better than more arcade Splinter Cell series and closer to Hitman : Blood Money in terms of freedom. The graphics is good, for a small independent Russian studio and for 2009, this game's graphics is quite good and detailed in almost every aspect. The sound, not much sound but it still effective. You don't need a loud background sound if you're gonna stealth all the way around. Buy it, this is one underrated gem and unique game that you will fall in love with eventually.
