The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition

Good mechanics, design issues

Many people who comment on this game do so from the perspective of long-time Elder Scrolls/RPG fans. they find this game to be 'dumbed down' compared to previous entries in the series and even contemporaries in the genre. I'll be upfront: I am not a huge fan of RPGs. I'll play them if the story is good or the gameplay is noteworthy, but I won't play a game simply because it excels in its 'RPG-ness'. Overall, this is a very well executed game. the exploration is by far the best part in my opinion and the combat is serviceable as well although a bit repetitive (I played a one-handed melee specialist, sword-and-shield type of a character). the main thing that holds this game back are the interactions which are somewhat badly written in my opinion. after every interaction there is a feeling of disappointment that "there should have been more", that the game is simply not deep enough. 4 Stars.
