Upon first hearing of Croc getting the remastered treatment, I was both surprised and concerned as Croc was definitely more of a product of a bygone era in gaming history and is more remembered as a a quirky platformer with less than ideal controls that did not fit well with the level design the game is centered around and worried it would be a quick cash grab on those feeling nostalgic for the game. However, after getting the game at full price and right around the launch window of the game, I’m very happy to say that Croc is absolutely worthy of the title remastered and the initial asking price! From the graphical improvements to the controls, Croc was able to transport me back to when I was a young kid back in the 90’s and reminded me of such simpler and more unique times in gaming history and is easy to set up and launch on my PC without any issues or graphical glitches or crashes whatsoever the handful of times booting the game up! Firstly, controls for the game have been finely tuned to that closer to a Super Mario 3D type game and not that of the tank controls more common in a game like the original Resident Evil games. It’s responsive, smooth, and works naturally with the level design that the game was built around originally all those years ago. Graphically, the updated models and textures look very clean and polished up, giving me that look a smaller indie platformer look of today that still captures that 90’s aesthetic look of many early 3D games of the time. It’s also a nice treat to not only get these wonderful quality of life improvements, but also change it in the options menu back to the original graphical look and even play the game with tank controls for those looking for more of a challenge or even experience the game how it was originally designed with. It’s also nice to see all the behind the scenes stuff, directors commentary, artwork, commercials, etc. All in all, this revival for Croc is well worth your time and money! Play it today! :D
