Guilty Gear X2 #Reload

Balance, depth, and diversity of play

Hands down one of the most balanced, deepest, and fastest fighting games around with a huge cast of characters with very diverse play styles, #Reload is one of the better entries in the Guilty Gear XX series. Provided you have someone to play it with (as with any fighting game), #Reload will keep you entertained for a long, long time. It always seems like there's something new to learn in Guilty Gear. I've been playing #Reload specifically for around seven or eight years now and I still can't get enough of it. While Guilty Gear has no shortage of tons of other mechanics, the one that sets it most apart among other fighting games is its mechanic for spending part of a special meter to "cancel" the animation of any move. This leads to fascinating ways to experiment with extending combos and more thrilling matches as you can spend meter to continue putting pressure on a blocking opponent. As a whole, Guilty Gear can be characterized as a very aggressive fighting game--it has many ways in which is punishes players who attempt to sit in corners and turtle up, while it rewards players who get in and attack their opponents. If you don't enjoy playing aggressively, Guilty Gear XX #Reload may not be for you. As a side note, I really wish I could recommend the PC port of the latest more refined entry in the series, Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R, but very sadly Arc System Works has decided to take the anti-consumer approach of crippling its PC port over with Steam CEG DRM. #Reload is an excellent game by itself and no less worth owning. This game has a fan-made patch that enables network play with people around the globe and surprisingly good netcode.
