First a little pro and contra list: pro: + great atmosphere + beautiful aesthetic + meaningful strategic choices + great core gamplay + wonderfully diverse adventurers contra - slightly grind-heavy (part of the core concept, though - might feel unfair if you do not know what you are getting into At first I want to stress just how much I adore the atmosphere and aesthetics of the game - as a huge classical/gothic and cosmic horror fan this game delivers in all parts and is worth being played for this reason alone (if you are into that kind of style). Otherwise I would just like to further reiterate on the last contra point, as this seems to be the biggest downside many other reviewers see in the game. It comes down to 2 things: Heavy RNG and no wiggle room for wrong decisions. If things go down bad, heroes will die. Personally, though, I never had a problem with the games steep difficulty curve. And I never even had a problem with the heavy RNG. From a design perspective I can totally understand this descision: As soon as all parts of a run are known beforehand a "best" strategy will always be thought of from designated players and all the thrill will be gone for good. RNG kind of goes around that: If you know that you will have 2 food checks in a medium sized dungeon you will take exactly enough food with you. If you don't know if it will be 3 or 0 finding the optimum becomes quite more of a challenge and goes down to personal preference of playstile. The one thing I would like to tell everyone who might find this game's difficulty getting out of hand I would always advise this: Count with the worst and play it super safe. Always try to make runs in dungeons that are slightly below your adventurers level (And mabyedrag one or two lower leveled ones with you for leveling purposes). Always keep your equipment as high as possible. Always take only the fitting heroes in any given dungeon. Overstack with provisions. Don't do dark runs unless you really know what you are doing. Basically the idea is that through preparation you creat a "buffer" for bad RNG - just like in real life. Ih, and most of all: Don't mind if things go bad once in a while. It always can happen. With this in mind it should be no big deal to get through the campaign fairly easily - I managed quite a few campaigns with only 0-2 deaths, so it certainly is possible. Tl,dr: A great game for everyone who likes the atmosphere, and a must buy for dedicated dungeon crawlers.
