Sony knows how to write a remarkable story. I shed a tear or two after the final mission, that's how strong of a bond I had built up with the charakters. Gameplay is also good and as the completionist that I am, I think I gor a pretty nice bang for the buck with having had 65 hours of fun with this game.
I found out about Battle Brothers via the Lets Play by Youtuber HandOfBlood (Ehre!). The game does an outstanding job of constantly holding the carrot in front of your nose.... Only one more fight, then the next brother is a level up and I can give him the better weapon, with which I can kill tougher enemies and thus take on better missions and get more money for even better weapons. I can easily play for hours at a stretch! It also runs on a potato, so really anyone can play.
This game is for all those that like atmospheric and immersive singleplayer stories. I dived deep into the world and really bonded with the characters. Also the music greatly adds to the oppressive atmosphere and I highly suggest to use a headphone.
In the beginning I thought I would not like to play as trolls. You know... they are said to be dumb. Sluggish. Well, as the big Spellforce fan that I am, I bought it anyway... and I did not regret my decision for a moment! My reservations are pretty much what the story is all about. Trolls are not like that. And the trolls are out on a journey to prove it. An immersive story, stunning voice acting and beautiful graphics made me really enjoy this DLC and bond with the characters. Due to the possible different endings I'm quite sure I'll be having a second playthrough some time in the future. I also did not encouter any bugs, contrary to the original base game when it originally came out.
Soul Harvest gave me 37 hours of fun which I find quite remarkable for an add-on. The base-game was criticized for missing fractions and these are now finally delivered with Soul Harvest: Dark Elves and Dwarves.. And fortunately they play very differently, which is also due to the flying units, which allow new strategic approaches. The soundtrack and the voice acting are excellent, but the dialogues unfortunately contain (just like in the base-game back then) several spelling mistakes or developer comments that someone forgot to remove before the game's release (e.g.: Kill enemy XYZ [WIP: Quest not working yet]). But I'll still give 5 stars because the game is really good in most other aspects and worth its money in my opinion.
Taking control of the 4 seasons is a refreshingly different concept and it is really fun to play. Also beautiful artwork and good voice acting. Sadly the story is not too thrilling and a little short. Took me about 6 hours to finish. Imho it can't compete with e.g. Ori and the blind forest but still worth a recommendation.
I have been thinking about buying Firewatch for a long time. It was said to be rather short and boring. I envisioned a simple walking simulator, just wandering through the woods watching out for wildfires. I was wrong! Firewatch has a quite linear but intense storyline with some unexpected surprises. Some parts even had the potential of being a little scary. Might depend on the person playing the game, of course. Besides, graphics and artwork are just beautifully made. The only thing I could complain about is that the game has a very low replay value. Nevertheless you should give it a try. It's worth it. Just don't expect an action paced game with a complex gameplay. It's focus is clearly on the narrative.
The campaign of Spellforce 3 took me about 65 hours and I really enjoyed playing it at any time. I could really dive into the game world and sometimes after a few hours I wondered how time could have passed so quickly. I also found the story very interesting, especially everything around the Xarlonthep. However I only started with patch 1.35 because apparently there have been so much bugs right after release. But even though I couldn't find any serious bugs, the game still seems unpolished in many places. Sometimes my male character was addressed as a woman. Sometimes dialogue options were in English instead of German or there were minor spelling mistakes. Also the end felt a little rushed and leaves you with several unanswered questions. But this also might be a sign for a future DLC, who knows! All in all it's a good game and as a true Spellforce series fan this game should not be missing in your library in my opinion.
Great story and unique gameplay mechanics. Also very beautiful graphics, in its own way. Some are complainig about the difficulty but this was actually never an issue for me. I don't know how often I already played this gem and I would totally play it again! ;-)
