THIEF: Definitive Edition

Generic stealth/action game.

It's pretty boring in my opinion. If you're checking this out because you liked the earlier Thief games and want more, you don't need to give this a chance. You'll probaly be disappointed. If you are OK with an unremarkable stealth/action game, this might be somewhat entertaining for you. The animations take a bit long to complete, and it kind of takes me out of the game. Additionally, it just doesn't have much soul. I almost suffered through this whole game maybe a year ago, and I have a hard time coming up with anything really memorable or notable about the game.

Horizon Zero Dawn™ Complete Edition

Dull game with amazing graphics.

The game really does look amazing if you have a rig that can run it, but somehow the combat is very tedious. It stopped being fun for me after I got to the larger machines, which are so spongy that it takes a while to kill them. The game also incorporates elements of exploration, stealth, crafting, and trading, but none of the systems is individually that interesting. It's a really bland open world RPG with great graphics and mechanics that are just serviceable. I don't think I'd recommend it to anyone.

F.E.A.R. Platinum

Fantastic

This is possibly the best shooter that I've ever played. The weapons all feel good to use, and enemies actually respond to being shot in a way that feels fair to the player without making it too easy. The enemy pathfinding and AI are also really good. F.E.A.R. really took the idea of fighting squads of 5-10 enemies in an FPS game and refined it to the point that I don't think you can find other games quite like this. The presentation is also top notch. The graphics are looking pretty dated at this point, but it's aged well considering when this was released. It's not perfect by any means, but it's really good. For the prices that this usually sells for, it's definitely worth it if this looks like something interesting.

Hob

Pretty game, but lacks substance.

Hob has decent visual design and sound to start off, but there isn't enough to the gameplay to make it worth it to play through the whole thing in my opinion. I found the combat fairly repetitive with little enemy or attack variety, and exploration just consists of running around and jumping while pressing buttons. The animations of new areas being revealed are quite cool at first, but at some point I felt like I was just running around and pressing buttons mindlessly, waiting for something interesting to happen. I've never played a game that looks this good and unique while also making it feel like a chore to progress. If the visual style seems really captivating for you, this is possibly worth trying out when it's on sale. Otherwise, I can't recommend it.

Prey: Digital Deluxe Edition

What an impressive game.

It's an immersive first person shooter with memorable maps, characters, and enemies. I enjoyed playing through this two or three times just to try out different approaches to the choices in the game, both relating to the story and the ability progression. The action is good too with guns and abilities that feel impactful and fun to use, and enemies will give you a significant challenge from time to time. It's definitely a game that rewards thinking enemy encounters through. I didn't expect to find one of my favorite shooters of all time, but it was really excellent. On top of that, lots of characters have little sub-plots that reveal themselves throughout the game, showing that the devs really put a lot of thought into the world.

VVVVVV

Even good with spoilers

This game basically doesn't need an intro in 2022, but what the heck. I, like many people, saw videos of this game years ago when it was popular. I decided to get it anyways to see if I'd have fun playing it, and i don't regret it. It's not a long game: you'll possibly finish it in a few hours at most, but it's great quality all the way through. It's a simple platformer conceptually, but it has some tricky sections that are cleverly designed. The music is surprisingly good too: pretty much every track is very entertaining.

TUNIC

Not recommended for keyboard+mouse.

This game is very awkward to play with a keyboard. The mouse can't be used for aiming at all. Despite having enjoyed a couple of isometric games with a mouse(Hades, Death's Door, Nox, Grim Dawn, A Short Hke) , I can't recommend this one. I think my left hand is even sore from locking on and off while also trying to manage the movement. Admittedly, the system requirements do recommend a controller, but so do many games that accomodate PC controls so much better.

Ghostrunner

Surprisingly great. Wish there was more!

This game was really suprising. The platorming, and combat were so smooth and satisfying in this game. If you want to play as a badass cyborg jumping through a dystopian futuristic town, rife with a solid variety of enemies, this is your game. While you always die in one hit, and enemies can behave differently from how one would be used to them behaving in other action games, the game is not too unforgiving. The enemies are quite predictable all things considered, and they also die in one hit with the exception of the bosses. Finally, the game runs on a checkpoint system, and it does not make you repeat a lot of content if you die. All in all, this was a huge blast. I died many times, but it never got tedious to the point that it wasn't fun for me. The story and characters are quite decent too, though they're not a huge focal point.

Potion Craft: Alchemist Simulator Demo

Awesome!

I'm being generous as I have no idea how expensive and varied the final product will be. As a demo, I'm quite pleasantly surprised. Give it a try! Good atmosphere, "exploration" if you believe it, and good gameplay and interface. I'm excited to see just how good the final version will be. There is the possibility that they will end up with a relaxing and pretty deep game given the premise.

Little Nightmares II

Good Sequel, and a memorable story.

Little Nightmares II was definitely worth getting for me. It has excellent atmosphere, and I loved exploring its twisted world. Those little characters were fun too in an odd way. The only thing that I did not like about the game was that it gets pretty tedious whenever it decides to lean on its controls for some game mechanic. This game controls well as far as running and jumping around goes. The combat and flashlight mechanic are not one of its strong points though. That being said, I think that this is a great game with one or two flaws, not the other way around. Definitely worth getting if you think the world and story look interesting to you. Also, I think this is even better than the first game in many ways! Great step up from the original, which is also great.
