Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition

Glad I was able to rescue this one.

Saved my FO4 from the clutches of Steam, thank you GOG. For those who know the series, this is the most enjoyable & REPLAYABLE sequel. Nevada was long and wacky with forced decisions coming at you from all sides. This game lets you build your own home base or bases, in more than one location. Yes, it will make you a Looter lunatic, you'll press E on anything even if Stealing from your own people. (Wait, not sure that was a good thing to write... ;-p) For all its deficiencies, the shooting engine works better than all its predecessors, though engagement area maybe short, it still beats the others. Lack of USA weapons can be countered with Mods & Bethesda provides both the M1A1 Rifle & the M-16 platform, as well as the famous 1911 pistol. Checkout the internet for Codsworth's name list, aka if you name your character with that, he will address you by name half the times or more.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum™

Greatest Disappointment of 2023

For one, Gollum looks nothing like the one in the movie, a lot more Gay. "There's no Floor" concept started by the makers of the Styx games needed not be in here. Game is a bad console port where graphics are somewhat low or too low for PC. Stutters galore and low & behold, game glitches with no saves in sight. Getting stuck by a door that won't open and having to reset a whole level is something heatbox owners enjoy, not me. Developers need to stop porting games from console to PC, does NOT work well, ever. Consoles will always be inferior in HW design and SW design.

The Technomancer

Great Sci-Fi RPG

Great story, great combat play, great graphics. Character development & gaining companions fall in line with the advancement of the story. Missing a star because of the need to run through back & forth through mobs of enemies, just to finish the quests or get new ones. But maybe that adds to the needed progression for higher levels, needed to cheese the ultimate Boss monster. (no cheat necessary, but you will need your strategy setup) Story ends with a surprise, though I did expect it, somewhat.

GreedFall – Gold Edition

Woke RPG Stay Away.

In the shadow of Inquisition, this game paints all white colonists as evil. They also call you what resembles "anal men are we", where supposedly the victims are the natives of the twice invaded lands. An obvious historical attack on all white colonists. 2nd star earned because of good graphics & good combat play, with upgradeable skills & items. Otherwise, the story is complete garbage, your character is a dubious noble of somewhat gay descent.

Wasteland 3: Colorado Collection

Great Fallout Like Game.

A good story based on the CO chapter of Fallout. More like FO 1 & 2. Combat is 3rd person strategic turn based, like X-Com 2. Levels & Improvements in gear are great. You can also modify items. Great Graphics, Voice Actors & Music. I think it was also Psychologically & Emotionally moving, makes one think.

Destroyer: The U-Boat Hunter

Badly Designed, Poorly Implemented.

The least of which you will do is destroy submarines. At best you make them flee with no losses. The game still considers that a victory & I find that in detriment of the intent of a Destroyer Ship Role in that theater of WWII. And in real life strategy, you don't let them go, or you'll find yourself torpedoed in your sleep. I only gave it a 2nd star because of the graphics & sailing are decent. Could've been great, did not reach for the sharks...

Mad Max

Best MadMax game out there.

Doesn't follow the original movies, but still a great story to follow. Brilliantly designed and well done combat with both cars & personal. You upgrade both MadMax & his gear, at the same time the Vehicle. I can't help but go back into it once in a while to beat up on some chrome dome gang. Open world (kinda, don't jump into areas you can't hold your own), great graphics. Just make sure to optimize graphics, it is a console port, ultra will stutter badly, no matter your HW, tune it down, you lose none of the textures & beauty. Good Replay Ability.

Chernobylite

Not what I expected, politically loaded.

Bad Ukrainian, NeoNazi influences & Anti-Russian sentiment. Pure Hatred. Blowing Chenobyl out of proportion ? Yes, makes good fantasy play. Especially with the history of USSR. Taking the Neonazi side and having a guy with a Rockefeller-Rothschild symbol on his wife beater t-shirt, that's extremely bad & prevalent with what is going on with the game. And nobody in the game has a deeper manlier voice than that annoying teen wanker with a foot long neck and no cranial capacity. OH BUT WAIT ! You can't finish the game without him. The forced memories you need to have to actually make it to end game means you have no choices. You have to guess their preset path in the dark without a clue and override anything you willfully chose on purpose. WTF does the player matter, Neonazis in Ukraine is what matters... The game that could've been if not for the politricks and forced choices, has lots of stuttering that even FSR did not completely fix.

Shadow Warrior 3: Definitive Edition

Bad Sequel, Complete Garbage.

Console Heatbox Port that is horrifically terrible at everything. Graphics are miserably low, like from 1980s, no good sounds or music either. Gone are the good puns of SW 1 & 2. None of the weapons intrigue & upgrades of 2. Floor is lava or air, who likes crap like that ? Yes, you will die plenty, no fighting, just to get from point A to point Z. At which point you're locked into a combat where you beat the mob or they beat you, some with bosses and flying units all thrown in. Kinda like player abuse. I ended up dropping the game after a few levels, not sure which. Too frustrating and un-enjoyable, this is not SW. Do Not Buy, Stay Away !

Train Life - A Railway Simulator

Train Simulator With A Purpose

The Good: Innovative idea to have the player be a Freelance Entrepreneur and a Driver at the same time. You make your own deals, hire drivers, upgrade locomotives, promote cities so they have more goods to transfer (or people & mail, two modes of play, switchable between runs). Switches are flipped from cabin, no need for map for that, but check the map to take the bypass to a factory or city, when needed. Most switches are X crosses and plenty of them, you will not miss your turn even with adverse effects on. Plenty of realism, great graphics & beautiful scenery of Europe. Got me hooked, but I am already an experienced train driver from the grey pigeonholed games. You have to make several bad mistakes to derail or crash, this game is VERY forgiving. (but you do get fines) My first ~6hrs. of play I drove ~3,000km & earned ~550,000eur, with which I bought 2 locomotives, hired one driver & upgraded the startup locomotive in expectation for another driver or backup. The Bad: Adverse effects are trains coming up on your line or locomotives stuck on the way. Problem being, you will get emergency alerts, sudden red lights you can't stop before them (but only get a fine, you can correct and backup), only to find out the train was going on the line next to you or veering off on a split line. This is not always the case though & many times you do have to stop to sort it out, when both trains are stopped at the same cross, just choose the free line and you'll be told to proceed. Emergency brakes are the main reason your locomotive wears out in damages, but overall, you should make it to destination, because every station in between has a repair shop. The Ugly: More of an Arcade drive but enjoyable, what was cut out is the Shunting & Consist Sorting. Which some people like, some may not, but you can still pickup multiple Contracts from the same station, you'll have to sort them according to YOUR preset delivery schedule. So it still requires a logistic mind sooner or later.
