Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered

Labor of Love with potential to improve

Similar to the TR I-III remastered collection, this one oozes with love from the devs. You can clearly tell that they did their best to enhance the dusted engine with everything it could give. The games are nowhere near perfection, but if you keep in mind that they chose to do a Remaster instead of a Remake or Re-Implementation, the outcome is surprisingly good. Especially the step-child of the series (Chronicles) looks AMAZING in most parts. Rome has never looked this beautiful. Unfortunately at release time it shows that not the whole vision of the Devs has been implemented (yet). TR4's remastering quality takes a significant dip in some areas and TR6 (AoD) - well, is still AoD. The remastered controls make it A LOT better and the restored animations and weapons breathe new life into the games, but at its core the engine still has the same faults as the original. I'm giving this 4 stars for now, since for the fifth star, I expect the devs to deliver what was not possible at release time. A consistent experience throughout all 3 games and a few more fixes to AoD (I'm looking at you, now missing reflections).

Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars: Reforged

A masterpiece - excellently restored

Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars: Reforged is a nearly perfect remaster of the old classic. All the scenes look like I remember them - and only switching back to the original graphics reveals how much they have actually improved. There's still a few points of critique though: The scenes from the Director's cut are missing, the game is quite costly, given that it's already the third release and the audio quality (especially the English voice over) is partly subpar. The last point is understandable, given that they had to use the original recordings, but at some points it feels like they could have been improved more. All in all it was a great throwback to one of my most beloved games from my youth and I'm happy it was brought to modern systems.
