Darkest Dungeon®

Really interesting twist on an RPG...

The mechanics and story intrigued me, but it was the game play that kept me. I wasn't sure I was going to like it when I started, but once I figured out how everything worked, I learned to really appreciate the game. There is no save and re-load feature of the game... you literally have to plow through and get an unlimited stream of new recruits to help you on your mission. Lots of quirks to playing the game well... very much an enjoyable game... highly recommend.

RimWorld

The best strategy game features combined

I own this on another platform, and have played this for a little over a year. It has constant replay appeal, particularly because the developers continue to enhance and improve the game. It's one of the best Indie games of this genre. It combines a mix of EA's Sims, Maxis's Sim City, SSI Stronghold, and others. Do not buy if you are easily addicted to playing games, and don't want to get stuck in front of the computer for endless hours.

Starflight™ 1+2

The game that started it all...

This is a hallmark space game that perfectly captures the loneliness and dangers of space exploration. People say, "they don't make them like they used to," and this game perfectly exemplifies that. It's hands-down one of the best "free-roam" space simulators you'll ever find. SF1 is in EGA, SF2 is in VGA. Both use an identical engine. You can't go wrong. Game is long... very long, but well worth it.

198X

The story makes this game...

The game takes you through the experiences of a suburban teenage tom-boy/girl who’s living out her life in the 1980s vicariously through arcade games. What makes the game interesting is that it really speaks to a lot of the things most of us felt growing up during the 1980s. The mundane, what was exciting, etc. I can’t tell if the game was actually written by people who lived through the 1980s, or if they actually just really like the genre... but you can tell the game was written with personality and passion. And I don’t really say that about most games.

J.U.L.I.A. Among the Stars

I really liked this game...

I'd call it the Myst for our generation. It's everything I'd hoped it would be. Graphics and video are excellent, and the puzzles are the right level of complexity and not too difficult. There was even a Caesar Cipher in there. I couldn't ask for more, except a sequel!!!

Conquests of Camelot: The Search for the Grail

A classic!

Such a classic. This is the original game by Sierra, Conquest of Camelot. Imagine the King Arthur story done in the style of Kings Quest and Space Quest!

X-Com: Enforcer

I'm in this game...

I have this game, but it's absolutely horrible. However, I knew one of the developers who worked on this game, and a picture of me is imbedded into the game wearing a 1970s "Sears Leathershop" leisure-suit jacket while standing next to David Hasselhoff (separate pictures photoshopped together). There's also an Easter-egg of a blue Dodge Neon in here (not mine). But still... not a fan of the game, but I have to give it 5 stars cause I'm in here... somewhere.

X-COM: Terror from the Deep

The missing airplanes!

Great game, as everyone else says, a re-skinned X-COM UFO, but underwater. 5 stars, one of my favorites. Quick fun fact though. For those who have ever played the original release of the floppy disk version, there were many missions where you would find a crashed airplane underwater. Usually something resembling an MD-80 or something of that size. However, because of a significant number of serious air disasters (three unique US planes crashing with all 100+ people aboard dying), they removed any underwater mission that had these planes underwater, unrelated to the mission. If you got the updated version of the game, or the version on CD, it would have had this stripped. If I'm not mistaken, simply updating the game removes these potential mission levels as well. Would be nice to see someone put them back.
