Don't Escape: 4 Days to Survive

I want to play more of this!

The best part about this game is that i is a lot less linear than your usual point-and-click adventure, it gives you a lot of room to miss some details and to mess things up a little, the result of these minor failures being that sometimes your companions end up dying. As your individual companions can both die or survive depending on how you are playing, this branching is reflected on the story and it can lead to multiple different endings. There are also some secrets that you can uncover which lead to secret endings and to a special "Awakening" mode. There are even a few parts where you face some minor ethical dilemmas where taking a certain course of action will give you an advantage, but it requires you to do something that might offend the moral sensitivities of your companions. This freedom already gives the game some good replay value, and this value is amplified by the fact that the threats you face each day aren't the same in every playthrough. You need to change up your strategy to adapt to changing threats. I also love how the story is connected to previous Scriptwelder games, particularly to the Deep Sleep series. The game only has one flaw, in my opinion: It is far too lenient. You can save and load the game freely at any time, and if you fail badly at preparation one day the game even loads back to a recent autosave so you can fix everything without restarting the day. I really feel like the game should have punished players more and it should have had more hidden secrets, because the way it is I got the best ending (lunar cataclysm averted) in just my second playthrough, and I didn't even use the save and load feature to my advantage and rolled with the punches even when one my companions died. However this doesn't ruin the experience and I still enjoyed the game. Overall I found it to be a quite enjoyable and memorable game and I definitely recommend it. I also hope we will see more good games like this by Scriptwelder in the future.
