Some people who love Skyrim or Oblivion consider this game antiquated and just chop the fanbase's love for it as old early 2000s kids' nestalgia but this game has it all. For RPG lovers at least. It is deep. It is layered like an onion. The politics are fleshed out. The religion is fleshed out. The flora and fauna around you are unique and fleshed out. It is a deep dive into the world of the Dark Elves culture and their world like non other and every bit you slip into it's quick sand like pull you feel embraced. Like the warm hug of a blanket by the fire. 5/5 stars. 10 /10 grand sould gems. It's worth the sqeeze!
While HoMM4 fails in comparision to the classic Heroes 3 it is a fantastic game. Fans bombed it when it first came out due to the overall change in design and some currently patched issues with the enemy AI. I too felt the same way at the time, but after hundreds of hours of playing and still doing a campaign playthrough every once in a while over ten year later I have to say it is well worth it. Combat is still classic franchise appropriate fun. Factions are well thought out and unique. It is for sure not well balanced as all HoMM were not ment to be- your are ment to find those expoits and cheese the heck out of them! And the campaigns are fantastic. Certainly not epic Final Fantasy level stories but nice little stories involving justice, morality, human nature and human sorrow that tend to cut a little deeper than you would assume a Heroes' franchise to do. . .
