Ys X: Nordics

Great Ys game, cringe localisation

Another stellar Ys game by Falcom. If you like action RPGs or Falcom games in general you'll have a great time. Runs at a stable 60fps on my near decade old pc with lightning fast load times. Impressive stuff. If you're new to Ys you can jump in without worry, aside from references the story is standalone, as per usual with the series. If you're a returning Ys player don't be afraid to play on Nightmare mode. As usual NISA provides a terrible localisation with changed lines, cringy one-liners, and superfluous dialouge. It's not as damning as the Trails series, but it's just silly when every swear get censored to "By Hárr's beard!" and the like. Grenn in particular is absolutely destroyed by cringy millenial writing, couldn't take him seriously after the 'knee slide' line. My biggest gripe is that the amount of text is twice as much as it really needs to be, padded with 'creative writing' no one asked for. I'm garbage at writing but even I can tell that superfluous writing does not equal good writing, it may sound impressive but it's just fluff. It's a common tactic used by A.I., jews, and now localisers. I like reading but not when it's inaccurate semi-fanfiction. It's especially grating on you with this being maybe the yappiest Ys game to date. Overall though the localisation is tolerable, unlike Trails. Switch to japanese text if you can. Despite my gripes I really enjoyed Ys X. Doesn't quite reach the heights of VIII & IX, but still a worthy title in the legendary series. Looking forward to what Nihon Falcom cooks up next!
