X-Com: UFO Defense

X-COM UFO Defense is a game where you'll suck a lot at first, losing your troops, failing to account for base-management/design, or placing your bases at less than optimal areas; however, once you get past the difficulty curve, learn the enemy movements and patterns, manage your troops better, and learn to place your bases at prime-locations, you'll find a game that rewards you and is extremely satisfying to master. Now how is this different from the rebooted X-COM games? Every troop member you deploy on a mission isn't someone you'll be as emotionally attached to, they'll die in a single-well placed shot till you research better gear, and your choice to defend an area against the alien threat will be far more rooted in how much money your org has, whether or not you'll have room for any loot, and how many troops you are willing to use on a combat encounter. So should you play UFO Defense? Yes, do use OpenXCOM as others have suggested, it'll make it run on modern systems plus if you want to go an extra mile use OpenXCOM Extended for mod support.

Best game there still is. real tactics, like avoiding the doors and going through the walls. A lot of variation in research, manufacturing and love the fact that the base you've build is the base that might be attacked, using the map you've made. A lot for a game, far before its time and there's a lot more than this.

This is a great ole game. Played it in 94. Yep its old but its a classic. Ole games don't have ads or in game purchases, You get the complete game. Its hard though. Watch yt for hints.

I originally bought this game on a stack of floppy discs, and spent the next several months playing it at every moment I could spare. Basically, it combines turn-based combat with squad-level RPG stats and equipment advancement, base building, and at least a taste of diplomatic considerations. The nearest equivalent might be Jagged Alliance 2, another classic game that adds strategic considerations and RPG advancement to an excellent tactical wargame. The only disappointment I recall was that nobody went on to build a series of squad-level focused historical wargames on either of those foundations.

How they fit this game into 15 MB is beyond me. I haven't played this game in over 20 years, but I still remember my last battle when I defeated it. I did it with my last guy who threw his last grenade and luckily killed the last alien. It came down to one lucky throw. What you should get out of that is I still remember how I ended the game because it's that good!
