X-Com: UFO Defense

This has always been such a great balance of long-term planning (bases, research, funding) and dramatic tactics (missions), highly playable, great graphics, music that still holds up, a slowly unravelling mystery with a solid conclusion. One of the best games I've played over many years.

The interface didn't feel confusing at all after reading the manual. I guess playing Enemy Unkown also contributed to how easy this was to pick up in general. The game feels genuinely challenging and winning a battle is very satisfying. It was a sad moment when my squaddie Will die Horribley got fatally wounded by a plasma rifle and died a slow and horrible death. Research med kits ASAP.

I have been playing this game since the late 1990s and I come and go from it over the years. I am now back in it as I was in 2008, and couldn't be happier. Its basically like a game of chess with basebuilding. A huge part of this game is the music is epic, esp. for the time period. This game usually makes at least a top 25 games list of all time, for those that understand games since their inception in the 70s. Now GOG makes this easy to play, so even better. Even if its full price at like $5, you will get your money's worth. All this said, there is a pretty big learning curve, so definitely start on Beginner if its your first time. A little hint, skip the lasers and go right for PLASMA weapons!!!

Turn-based, progressive research which increased firepower and defense, turn based battle on the ground. Live action graph based aerial battle. Old school graphics. Sill an awesome Classic.Even with graphics and game play as dated as this is still a great game. Would Recommend 7 out of 10
