I played this game years ago when it first came out. It can be very challenging, but a lot of fun. There is some micro-managing with moving weapons around and making sure they are on the correct ships, but once you get used to the mechanics of it it's a lot of fun. DON'T send your troops in at night, wait until daylight to land or your soldiers will be wiped out by superior alien night sight.

I first played this game on PS1, renting it several times. The level of customization was rare in those days. There are several things to manage, the importance of some things only becoming apparent later in the game. This results in starting over a few times when you realize you have no hope of holding back the aliens with your current resources. Saving and loading is very helpful when missions go horribly wrong. It used to take several minutes to load a game on PS1, but it is pretty quick these days. The music is great. The graphics are still pretty good, especially given all of the heavily-pixelated games being released lately. The atmosphere that the game creates with the music and sounds is exciting and ominous. This is not a fast-paced game, but it is great for squad-based, tactical strategy.
