Good game, but runs poorly

If they ever come out with an optimized version of this game I'd bump it up to 4 stars. So, let me just say that I really enjoyed my time with Tyranny but I wanted to get the bad out of the way first. This game is really poorly optimized. Considering it's meant to be reminiscent of RPGs released over tne years ago, I shouldn't be encountering so much lag when playing it on a modern PC. There were a handful of times when the lag was so bad I actually wondered whether or not I was going to be able to beat the game. The game doesn't have too many bugs but there were a couple that I got caught in which stood out. Namely characters ocasionally getting stuck in certain animations, and the game sometimes getting stuck on loading screens. Also, not sure if it's a problem with the game or GOG but none of the achievements I got after a certain point in the game showed up, despite me having beaten the game and unlocked all the spires. Apart from the technical performance gameplay is very much reminiscent of isometric RPGs, and so requires a lot of micro-managing. It's not that bad if you're playing on a normal difficulty setting, but I'm not a huge fan of that type of gameplay in general. And although I was enjoying the Bastard's Wound DLC, for some reason, the combat in there seemed leaps and bounds more difficult for me than the rest of the game. So, onto the good. I did really enjoy my experience with the game overall. Some people feel the game isn't fleshed out enough or too short, but I really found myself getting wrapped up in the story, the world and the chracters. Although I'm not sure I'll be doing a second playthrough anytime soon, there is also quite a lot of variation in how you can approach quests and the game's overall plot. Overall, I'd definitely recommend the game on the strength of it's story and for fans of isometric RPGs, but technically this game falls very short for me, and I'm not sure I'd want to do it again until a few things are updated.

A beautiful thought provoking game.

if you love Bauldurs Gate, you will love this. An interesting and unique isometric game with excellent characters, lore, and conversations and combat. I hope Obsidia keeps making games like this forever!

Epic game

Best underrated game ever. The stories was so good and the soundtrack was so intense. Still using it on my cellphone. epic

Decent and well played one

Well, for me Tyranny is very solid and interesting piece of crpg. I'm very bored of being good guy on the mission to save the miserable world from its own fears and troubles. Many with disagree but in lots of aspects this game is much better than PoE which is also very good. What i do like about Tyranny is simple fact we don't deal with typical and usual stuff like in most similar productions vide many races etc. Human, beasts and spectrals are far enough for decent play without being bored by unimportant stories. Story line is good played. Mechanics are good but could be better, skill and progress sytem is very transparent, fights are also good but as it is common for this kind of games it is getting bored after a while. I'm still having fun playing Tyranny and recommend this game.

An RPG where your companions are cooler

First of all if you liked Pillars of Eternity this game is a great upgrade. They took all the things bad about PoE, stats, no party ai, party size, wonky combat, and improved them. The game is pretty great, the story is original and the setting is super cool. The combat isn't amazing, but it works about as expected for a cRPG. Overall I'd say this is one of the best party based RPGs to come out in a long while. But there's a downside, your main character the fatebinder, is dull as dishwater, mechanically speaking. There are no classes and you gain powers from a list of generic power trees, none of them are terribly inspiring or fit any kind of theme other than being as generic as possible. Meanwhile every ally you get has an amazing and super cool list of skill trees that are wonderfully thematic and mechanically diverse. This could have been easily solved with classes, but the game doesn't have those for... some reason I couldn't begin to fathom. The ability trees have clear class themes, but they're bare bones and uninspired. Thankfully the magic system is straight up AMAZING. The magic system in this game really shines, and really pushes you to play a mage to take advantage of this games most unique and interesting system that a cRPG has ever had. tl;dr play a mage.
