The High-Point
My favorite "Thief" game. When first playing it, I was expecting all kinds of frustrations from the bellowing of fanboys I had heard, but such was not the case. The frequent loading was the only annoying part, but was worth it for the better graphics. Smaller levels? Yes, but on the other hand, The City felt more coherent, now, as a real place should, not like the disjointed whole of the first two games (although, in the first games, that added to The City's sense of mystery). Also, you can pick pockets for extra money to buy more equipment. Second person? You can opt to play in first. "Loot glint"? Who cares, seriously? I would have liked to have retained the rope arrows, but didn't really miss them. The lock picking is now a little more involved, the AI and physics a little better. I loved those Assassins; they're a great new addition to the "Thief" world. But the best thing is the story, arguably the creepiest overall plot of the three, it turns the three games into one story arc that is brought to a satisfying conclusion. I actually felt a little sad when it was over, as I sensed that I had come to the end of Garrett's adventures in my favorite fantasy setting. Keep your D&D, this franchise is second only to the works of Robert E. Howard. Well, some of them, anyway.

Criminally underrated, phenomenal game
Still an amazing Thief game. IMHO, better than The Dark Project (owing to how Deadly Shadows felt like a thieving simulator, while TDP felt more like a dungeon crawler rather than a full-fledged stealth game). Buy this game if you're a Thief/Stealth fan

A mix of sneaking and horror later on
I still visit Shalebridge Cradle in my nightmares sometimes. There is a reason why its on most people top5 horror levels of all time.

Awesome game and works great on W10
Glad I "ignored" the reviews saying it no longer works because of ladders and lockpicking. While it's true that it can be an issue on newer systems (nothing really to do with Windows 10 it seems) this apparently has been an issue for a long time and has nothing to do with the GoG (or Steam) versions. If you google the lock picking issue it's easy to find this for example: https://support.gog.com/hc/en-us/articles/360019302113-Thief-3-Deadly-Shadows-lockpicking-issue?product=gog Which links to a really old thread about the Sneaky Upgrade and it works perfectly. Been playing Thief DS without any issues by simply installing this before even playing for the first time, left it all on default settings. Now depending on your exact system you might need to do other things but it's all part of the linked forum post. There are even some pretty new discussions on there from 2022. As for the game itself: It's Thief! I can't fathom I hadn't seen that Thief DS was a thing. I played the original and Thief II extensively way back when, so very glad I can now play this one without a hitch and I don't even need a good system and spend lots of money like I would've back then. Works very nicely on this cheap, previous, previous gen business grade laptop that won't even be allowed to upgrade to Windows 11 w/ an Intel HD 520 integrated graphics chip.
