The Settlers® 4: Gold Edition

Worked well on my windows 7 laptop but after the update to windows 10 it stopped working

While Settlers II was arguably the finest installment of this franchise, this game is still so good. Unfortunately it's old enough to have only 3 resolutions to choose from and they are all 4:3 aspect, so be prepared for that. The gameplay is still fairly good, but it can be difficult to get used to. I think this is still worth a shot, though I'd wait for a sale before picking it up.

Game does not install, I have tried everything. It gets to 2% and does not succeed the install no matter what. I have tried reinstalling the client, manually uninstalling and reinstalling, Terrible port and terrible client.

Regarding compatibility, I have the pleasure of having Windows 7, which is, in my humble opinion, the best choice for games! So yes, I am lucky! Now, to the game itself... I happen to be a huge fan of the original "The Settlers" of 1993, and to this day I still believe that it is the best of them all! And I say this, having played all 7 of them! This one lacks many things: Organization: The "settlers" are just roamers, all over the place! Roads: You don't make them any more! (the fixed this in later games!) Tutorial: Although it tells you what to do, you can get stuck very easily! Although this one is slightly better than The Settlers 3, it is still far from being perfect! I am sorry, but this is just another "sequel" which is actually a disappointment!

Compared with Settlers 1 or 2, I do not like Settlers 4 and 3. You no longer build roads to enjoy creating logistics networks. Graphics is now 3D and looks bad. Combat is now almost like Command & Conquer or other real time strategy games. I could attack from any distance to any place with any number of soldiers. You do not start with nicely packed storehouse - many piles of various stocks are now outside, looking like a landfill.
