The Curse of Monkey Island™

This is, without a doubt, my absolute favorite MI, and one of my all time favorite games. The story is good, the animation and backgrounds are absolutely gorgeous, the voice acting is top-notch and music is great. I liked the ship battles segment quite a bit, and the insult swordfighting makes a nice comeback. On the flipside, some of the puzzles can suffer from "moon logic", but it's not constant, and you can usually figure out the solution based on your current goal, and the current goal is always clear. Story-wise, it feels like its own thing, which is both good and bad, I guess. It's nice that you can basically play this without knowing any of the other games, but I'm also a bit sad that there isn't at least a little continuity. This game represents the lead up to the absolute pinnacle of classic graphic adventure games, and I will always love it.

THIS is the Monkey Island on GOG I was waiting for! I bought this when it was first released and I loved it then, but of course, Windows Xp came along and basically scuppered my chances of getting the CD-rom version to ever run again. I was waiting for many a year and now it's finally on GOG and it runs perfectly! This game still looks lovely in 2019 - thanks to some excellent cut-scenes and the beautiful hand-drawn backgrounds and graphics. No, Monkey Island is not THE point and click adventure game to measure all others against (only games magazines would tell you that - and they don't even play the games) but this one above all the others really stands the test of time and in my opinion, does not even need a re-master. The remasters of 1 and 2 feel forced and unnatural. Definitely get this one - the sound effects, puzzles, voice acting and humour all come together to form a very strong point and click adventure. And another relaxing, stress free experience is guaranteed.

I've been waiting for the day GOG would get this game! My favorite game in existence right up next to Grim Fandango. Played this as a kid and it still holds up today.

This game was the first in the series I played back in the 90's and had a blast with it growing up. The writing and jokes are hilarious and the puzzles fun and interesting, recommend playing this on the "Mega Monkey" difficulty. To get more puzzles and more fun out of this game! If you like point and clickers, this is a must buy and then go play the other ones as well!

I feel like this game is nothing short of the perfect adventure game. I've played through adventure games all through the 90's and actually started replaying them as an adult now that I'm (barely) smart enough to beat them. This game from the art, characters puzzles, and animations are nothing short of a masterpiece. It doesn't necessarily get better than this.
