SWAT 4: Gold Edition

If you're disappointed how far Rainbow Six has removed itself from the classic tactical gameplay, come back to Swat 4 to get your fix. Clear rooms, dispatch hostiles and save the civvies in a never ending fight against crime alone or with a friend! When you've had your fill with the base game, try out the Swat: Elite Force mod for an improved and streamlined version of the game; the developer of the mod even got a job working on the new Ready or Not game! Overall, this is probably one of my favorite PC games ever.

I've played this game like 10 times now over the years. Gave the GoG version a try despite some of the critical reviews. Works flawlessly so far on Windows 10, which is why I bought the GoG version. Great SWAT game if you like this sort of game. The game itself is still great. It's a sweet spot of "good enough" graphics (can run on modern displays with large resolutions and runs on Very High on cheapo integrated graphics), configurable enough controls (no Tomb Raider or Duke Nukem mess) and replayable game play, because even if you replay the same mission right away, nothing is entirely predictable.

Absolutely love this game.. I can play it over and over. I really wish they'd make a remastered / sequel to SWAT 4! Highly replayable due to the fact that enemies are in different locations every time you play, so you never know what situation you're getting into. There are some frustrating times in the game, for sure. You can be 30 minutes into a level, almost complete, and some guy comes out of nowhere and kills you with one shot. But all in all, one of the best ever!

After seeing the launch of Ready or Not I felt like playing SWAT 4: Gold Edition. It's a 2005 game and in the mechanics it shows, no aiming from the crosshairs and no way to eliminate mouse acceleration. Fortunately there are mods on Moddb that modernize the game: Elite Forces, Elite Forces First Responders; Back To Los Angeles (you only need to install one of the three). I am playing Elite Forces First Responders, which I recommend. But the thing I wanted to talk about is the unsurpassed ability to convey the authenticity of the game setting through the use of spectacular level design.
