Challenging, full of potential

I have finished the prologue part at this moment. First of all, I despise all this pixel-mania that grips the gaming industry for too long now, but even to me the pixelated graphics of Stoneshard look great! Voice acting and the well-written dialogs create believable characters that add to the thick atmosphere. Books and notes that you find look very natural in the setting. Gamewise Stoneshard is a somewhat demanding experience. The enemies are tough, every mistake might cost you a lot of healing resources. You have to show care for your character's morale and sanity. This is also a bit of survival game as you'll need to look for food and water - or suffer serious debuffs. Even saving your game requires an inn or a camp. I see that many people are angry at this save-mechanics, but on the other hand it makes you truly consider the options even before the minor encounters and it adds to the importance of the choices that you make. Storywise it seems that you'll have to deal with a number of cults and various factions each of which has their own agenda. I'm really looking forward to find out more about the politics and religion of the Stoneshard world.

Slow cooking gem

Here's the thing: Stoneshard is excellent. But the developments is very slow. It's due to the fact that dev team hails from Ukraine and Russia. This is a unique experience. Graphics are pixelart style, but still manage to be gritty and a bit gloomy. This is an achievement on it's own. Gameplay loop - you are a mercenary, you complete contracts for a living. Usually you would wake up in the morning, and if you have a contract, you prepare for it by stocking up on food and survival equipment, then you travel to the dungeon and try to complete it. If you don't have a contract, you can also prepare and go exploring. Cool little thing is that you can pick up mushrooms and berries to stave off the hunger while in the woods. Everything costs money, from food and shelter to basic survival items, and money is not made easily. In this aspect the game is very realistic and you will not be seeing the usual gaming tropes, like selling every piece of junk to get rich quickly. Looted weapons and armor yeald very low price for being junk. It's not worth to repair them since repair is also expensive. You are pretty much inclined to only pick up valuables such as gems and jewelry. You will also earn a good coin from completing contracts. I can say that I struggled to keep myself fed and equipped for the first two characters that I tried. Dungeons are challenging. You have to actively look for traps. Enemies can hurt you both physically and mentally. Low morale or sanity will cause your character to randomly receive debuffs, while good mental state will often yeald buffs like optimism or heroism. Combine that with limited equipment and timed contracts, and you will realize that the chance to fail a dungeon is more less equal to a chance of completing it. Well, at least early in the game. Later on, with better equipment and skills, dungeoneering becomes a lot easier.

despite the save....

While the save game option would be a nice feature on leaving the game. It really isn't game breaking you just have to think it through.. Buy a week of time at the inn. Sleep for an hour if you just want to save.. Choose your battles and don't let them choose you. Don't rush in. Kite to separate your foes... usual stuff.. Enjoyable once you get the hang of it :)

A unique RPG

This is one of those game you will thrive to survive in. Quite hard until you get used to. But still, you will die. Its all about that. I like the permadeath option. It is brutal. But it is fun. Such a quality game. A must play for ANY RPG lover. Trust me you won't regret it.

A demanding Game but but satisfying

It is a turn-based action game (Save points are in taverns and captured camps). The game is pleasant, although many times we will die and begin the renewal. For this you have to think about each attack. The game has nice pixelart graphics. Call the syndrome of the next round, we will spend many hours thinking about how to win it. You have to remember that the open world is randomly generated, the Beta version is extremely playable and it is worth playing it. for turn-based RPG fans who like to think about the game strategy, this is a position worth buying
