Surprisingly fun!
I went into this not expecting much. I've never played a Sherlock Holmes game, so I had no precedent as to what it's supposed to be, yet something about Sherlock being portrayed as a Victorian Era twink tickled my pickle, and my curiosity gave in. What I found myself in was an open world ready to be explored and a main story that, although quite short, still had emotional maturity to it that I appreciated. The side quests were the real winners for me—there were a lot, and they did a good job of spreading out the game mechanics throughout different quests. Sometimes I had to track people, sometimes I had to take pictures or reconstruct a crime scene; they even implemented math puzzles, and dare I say...they were kind of fun. What I would say the main CON of this game is not the occasional stutter or clunky combat sequences, but rather that a lot of what I did ultimately felt a bit inconsequential. This game asks you to make a lot of choices, and not one of them felt impactful to the story, characters, or the world they inhabit. I don't want to spoil anything, because I do believe it's better to experience this game for yourself, but keep your expectations low, as this isn't an AAA game, yet it's something I believe was made out of true appreciation for the Sherlock Holmes franchise. It took me about 30 hours to finish and ultimately I don't regret my experience. I played this on a Steam Deck through the Heroic Launcher, and it ran well on normal settings. I did have to tinker with finding the correct save directory to get it to save correctly, but other than that, it worked pretty much fine with the latest Proton.
