Rebel Galaxy Outlaw

It is mostly a decent game, but one mission is fatally flawed in the main mission. You are supposed to be following this alien, but he's not anywhere in the area! When the game realizes you're not near this guy, the mission automatically fails. I never got passed this bug the last time I played it, and barely made it passed this point the first time I played to this point! The main mission is pretty flakey anyway, and completing it didn't leave me feeling like it was worth the gameplay at all ! VERY DISAPOINTING ! Play it for the side missions and the battles, the main mission is a joke.

When Outlaw was first announced and I saw the in-game screens, I thought it was a blatant Privateer rip-off. Not an homage, not a spiritual successor -- same screens with slightly different graphics, same equipment, same mechanics. Rip-off. But then I thought to myself "wait, isn't it a little cold to brush off someone's work just because it's (a lot) like someone else's work?" So I bought the game to form my own impression. Which is this: Cynical me was right AND $20 richer. If you've never played Privateer and have no intention of looking back at the golden years of computer gaming, this game might work for you. If you've loved the genre and were looking for an exciting next chapter in a long list of greats -- eh, maybe give it a miss. I didn't and now I'm out 20 bucks.

Privateer 2019

I bought this game when it came out on the Epic store, and I wasn't dissapointed. But It's very old school gameplay just like Privateer from 1993. I think thats why all the not so good reviews from people expecting more than that. As far as the controls go, buy a decent controller for your pc ffs. You can also customize the controls so you don't have to use auto aim. Voice acting and cutscenes aren't great or anything but this is from a small indie studio with limited resources. Overall I think this is pretty impressive coming from small indie devs. Not perfect but still lots of fun. Would like to see what they could do with a decent budget.

Good thing it is cheap. I can see why it gets the dislikes. The whole intro cutscene was like watching a comic book. Pretty basic looking, especially since the in game character models are actually decent. But I guess making the whole game looking nice was too much to ask. Haven't spent a lot of time in game yet and probably will never finish this game. It is pretty hard to even care about what you are doing in game since it is not you (or at least your name) and it provides absolutely no back story from the get go. Why do I care? Why should I grind all these missions to get a tiny payment for parts or ships? I did not feel compelled to play the game once I got to the mission board. I'll come back later.

Outlaw Star the Game

Do you wish someone took Outlaw Star/Cowboy Bepop and turned into into a crappy american scifi show, then you've gotta watch Firefly. Do you wish someone took Outlaw Star/Cowboy Bepop into an awesome privateer/freelancer type game, Then you've gotta play Rebel Galaxy Outlaw. Menu and controls need a litte tweaking, but they've laid out the groundwork for a great series.
